ROG GT6 daily freeze, daily problems

k1llerpl
Level 8

Purchased brand new GT6 duo pack, but having daily problem with it. On some point it freezes, led on main station shows white, red on the other node. There is no internet and LAN and it is impossible to join WIFI - says wrong password. Because of that I am unable to login to admin or check anything - only thing which fixes it is reboot of the main station - which I need to do daily. Anyone else having issue?

In the log I noticed that when it happens - log entries change to 5th May and there is some weird stuff there

@jzchen  It appears the two units are different and swapping them is probably not an option.  I am sort of wondering if the Router was ever stable if the Node was not active.

It’s my understanding that the system works for a while, (showing the same green Ethernet backhaul line that you shared from yours,) then somehow crashes, (on the order of once a day).

Thank you on the details of the package.  I thought they were the same.  (Gonna go research that now)….

EDIT-  They sell a GT6 1-pack, as well as per description, I'm pretty sure they are the exact same.  There is no distinction between router and node as there is for Netgear Orbi.

Node is active, shows white led and accepts clients. And those 2 units are swappable as well.

I went back and checked the model numbers, and the two different models are for Black or White, not just the separate units.

But the question, does just the primary unit work normally without the node connected or does it fail all by itself?

When I reset a node, I use the soft reset where you hold the reset button until the power light starts to blink.  After that process is completed, the node is reset and can be picked up again in a search.  While the node is reset, I think the light is red until recognized.

Fail by itself as well

If it fails on its own, maybe we need to look from the Router outward, toward a problem with the entire install.  If the data was corrupted, for some reason, it might cause the system to crash.

Any info regarding your ISP and do you believe the connections are all secure and you have adequate cabling to support it?

The next time it fails, record the time and any other circumstances, when that happened.   The logs can be quite large and you may need to save it to a file to see it better.

Not sure we ever asked about this but after a firmware update sometimes a hard reset is needed to fully install:

[Wireless Router] ASUS router Hard Factory Reset - Method 2 | Official Support | ASUS Global

I would suggest trying on both units (as you noted they are updated to the latest firmware).  If after rebuilding the network if it's still crashing daily I'd contact ASUS support.  I Googled your issue and am not seeing any sort of similar issue reported online regarding the GT6, so I still suspect at least one may be defective.

I am sending those units back - nothing works and ASUS support is terrible - you wait like 3 days for the response which says to do factory reset. This is bad for such as expensive piece of hardware. Probably will never buy ASUS again

When you “reboot,” do you need to add the node back in AiMesh Add Node, or does it connect automatically?

Reboot fixes it - no manual action is required
