I just purchased a GT6, router to use as a mesh satellite. I have ethernet wired to the location where the GT6 will reside downstairs.. (Main router is my new AX16000, which I LOVE!!! Very fast!)
If I connect the Ethernet to the WAN port 2.5G the GT6 will not see it or use it, but will use WiFi instead, which is a weak signal.
I see I can set it to do "Backhaul Connection Priority", but the only Ethernet option is apparently for Lan1. All my other routers when I connect WIFI to make it part of mesh use the WAN port, not a LAN port. "1G LAN 1 First"
Is this correct??? Is using LAN1 the only to make the GT6 use wired backhaul??
Is there any advantage to trying to make the GT6 utilize the WAN port for Ethernet back-haul??? I seem to assume the WIFI might be faster or better if connected to the WAN port??? Maybe not.
Why is this router different than other Asus routers for mesh ethernet backhaul?
Many thanks friends!

I'm suspecting this is a firmware bug, but am hopeful you just need to update it then it will work with 2.5 Gbps Ethernet Backhaul. I suggest you hard reset the GT6, connect it via Ethernet as you wish, then use the AXE16000 and try to add the GT6 node. This works most of the time for me, although I confess I do not have a GT6...

I may be missing something, but you are connecting the WAN port on the GT6 to the primary router or another Mesh node?

Thank both of you for the reply. Either I'm cracking up, or I misread the options for "Backhaul connection priority"... or the new option appeared after a reset and firmware flash.
I went back to default settings, then re-loaded the latest firmware, and now I have an option for "2.5G WAN first". Thanks again, guys!
Happy New Year!!

If I'm not mistaken only those Ethernet ports that are connected (live) are listed, so likely a firmware bug that didn't recognize the connection...

Might be correct, thank you for the help!
