Our BE98 has arrived and I have a new question?

Hi all,

I have found everyone here to be very helpful and with the arrival of our new BE98 I have a new question. It will be installed Saturday wired throughout the house that is why we're waiting to install it. It also gives me the Memorial Day weekend to set it up because we have a work from home situation that depends on the Wifi.

My question concerns the USB hard drive I am going to connect to it.

There will be two computers wired to the router we want the ability to share files through it, but also want to be able to access it with tablet or phone when away. I noticed there is a Samba setup I will have to learn Samba or should we be using the ASUS AI Cloud that I found later in the manual? It could be we have to use both I figure the community has some others who have either done this or know what I am trying to do.

I have experience with Samba only, but looking it up right now I believe you are correct,  AiCloud is needed to be able to access from WAN

Can you have both on at the same time I wonder. Samba for LAN and AI Cloud for WAN or does AI Clouid do both LAN and WAN?

Yes, I just went and toggled AiCloud ON.  They are now both ON.  AiCloud appears to be specifically access from WAN and Samba LAN.  For WAN you can either have a static IP from your ISP or set up DDNS access.

Thank you for the reply. I am going to have a lot of work Saturday, the new wiring going in connecting the ASUS router and setting it up. Fortunately I have the full Memorial Day weekend to make sure everything is working right.

Memorial Day US Holiday?  Is this a BE98 or BE98 Pro?  Or did you import a BE98 from another country?  I am eagerly waiting the release of ZenWiFi BQ16 Pro and I hope to get one.

It would be helpful to all if you just share how you set it up and whether it works properly/how you expect it to.  That way ASUS can know if they need to fix something and the community knows if they need a feature whether it works or not currently.  🙂

The good thing about ASUS Samba is in Windows File Explorer (if I named it correctly) you can select Network on the tree on the left and find the BE98 there and click on it.  For TP-Link Samba you have to memorize/write down the name and type it into the address field, then you can reach the connected USB drive.

Just finished my last final for the semester on Wednesday so just pop in and ask questions as you wish...

Thank you for all your help. Yes the US holiday. The router I got was the BE98 Pro. I will come back and tell people how smoothly or rough it went. The Asus routers offer a lot more features than I am used to so I will have to tackle them one at a time.  

Right now I am working on the name and password for the router. The network name and password is set, but we are going to set up an IOT network so need a password for that, a VPN, and then of course the AI Cloud. Going to be a fun weekent.
