New GS-BE18000 disconnect problems

AsusMemb23

Hello! I recently purchased installed and configured the new GS-BE18000 router and am having issues with it disconnecting certain devices during the day. I am hardwired via cat8 to my Xbox series X to port 5 gaming port and discovered that it randomly blips during games disconnecting me from COD matches. I dont fully disconnect it seems like a short blip just enough to kick me off? And I noticed on my Redmagic Astra tablet when I am playing Black Desert Mobile often times everything on the screen pauses like all characters around me controlled by people will pause or stutter. I turned on the stats tab on the astra which shows traffic speeds and say when im in a match with a lot going on I will see lots of 0kbps drops while things are hiccuping like 10ft from the router. Something weird is definitely going on... I had a 98 pro last year and never experienced issues like this. Ive read lots of posts people say to factory reset after firmware upgrade etc that hasn't helped so far. I'll try it again tomorrow. So for my I seem to be experiencing connection issues both hard wired and wireless and its super frustrating. Please help 🙂

*sorry also wanted to add that i havent really messed with many of the settings, all I've really done is set gaming to the top on Qos. It is running close to default settings for the most part.

For now/testing purposes please try turning off QoS.  At least for speed tests it tends to cap throughput on both wired and wireless.  The purpose/intention is to save bandwidth for second or third users, at the expense of the first.  I am afraid I am not surprised after reading your * comment what you noted.  You can run a speed test with QoS on and off to compare/see what I mean.

Do you have any devices on which you stream online media, such as movies?  If you do, you could watch that to see if the problem may affect more than just gaming.

You might also start noting the time these events occur so you could look at your logs to see if anything shows up.

You might also keep a window open so you could watch the WAN traffic in the Web GUI to see if it is stopping or slowing down during these events.

Is there anything in common during game play when this happens, such as flashing lights or sounds?

Edit:  I think I saw your router has MLO enabled by default.  If the system is trying to change radios during game play, it could be involved.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions guys... I did a factory reset this morning and the only thing I changed at all was binding my account and setting QoS type again to gaming from the upper drop down type menu you can click into. Everything else is untouched at this point. Will give it some time again and see if I keep experiencing the issues. If I do I'll turn off QoS etc. Im experiencing blips and drops both hard wired and wireless so not sure if MLO would affect both scenarios? I have notifications being sent to my phone amd previously it was reporting my Xbox on gaming port 5 as disconnecting and reconnecting ocassionally throughout the day. Will try and report back soon once I am able to observe more.

I am not aware of MLO potentially affecting wired devices...

(Hoping things work well after the hard/factory reset).

@jzchen  If the processor was doing something else, it may be involved.  Perhaps there is a way to change that behavior by turning MLO off, if it was enabled.

When you did the factory reset, did you do the hard version where you might use the WPS button?

You said you are using the gaming port on the router.  Do you also use the page like the one below?

Naw I just go into the phone app settings and swipe right on the red bar. I didn't mess with any of those settings you showed.

Might be too early to tell but I miiiiiiight have fixed it by factory resetting earlier today? I habent received any push notifications to my phone yet that my hard wired xbox on port 5 had disconnected and reconnected. Literally the only thing I changed this time is I set the QoS to prioritize gaming on the network.

ALSO forgot to mention in my original post that I did try to enable AFC and after a few days of it sitting in low power mode I disabled it. Maybe that had something to do with the disconnects even though I turned it off in the menu? *and just to clarify the disconnects and blips I was experiencing happened several days/weeks after I disabled AFC in the settings but maybe that had something to do w it? I dunno

Well shoot may have spoken too soon... I dunno if this is a router issue or tablet issue. My redmagic astra tablet still giving me like micro stutters or weird constant disconnect blips when im in a game mode that involves other people. Single player content works fine but multi-player stuff like pauses/hiccups pretty badly. Ive tried connecting to the 2.4ghz network. Tried disabling QoS altogether its still happening. I did get a notification from the router that my wife's xbox connected and then disconnected middle of the day when it wasn't on? Maybe it downloaded an update in low power mode or something?  Ugh this is all driving me crazy 😞

So I've turned off QoS completely and about to reboot the router.. looking at wifi settings I also noticed that MLO is off by default. Should I keep that off? Someone here mentioned it potentially causing issues earlier but apparently its been off this whole time.

If you don't have any WiFi 7 devices then it's easy to say yes turn MLO off.  (EDIT- Removed WiFi 7 OFF suggestion as I think it is needed for AFC).  I do suggest trying to get AFC to work (via the ASUS router mobile app).
