GT-BE98 UPnP problem

Hello,

I have router GT-BE98 with newest  firmware:3.0.0.6.102_39115. To the router over USB port is connected SSD disk and I shared photo and video as UPnP service. To the router is connected also my Samsung TV over wiredEthernet cable.

OTT services like Youtube, Amazon Prime are working correctly every time and everything is correct - the connection to the internet is established.

But when I want to see my photos or video from SSD disk connected to the router - very often, this resource simply disappears as a source from the TV. Other devices in the home network (other computers) also stop seeing this resource as a UPnP service.

Only restarting the router helps, and then the UPnP resource becomes visible again on other devices on the network.

What is the reason for the UPnP resource disappearing from the home network? How can this problem be solved?

I can only hope that this may help, no specific solution that I know of.  I only use my HDD with SMB/SAMBA on Windows 10/11.

3.0.0.6.102_37902 firmware, released prior to the 3.0.0.6.102_39115, "strongly recommends" to factory reset after installation.  If by chance you upgraded to either of these two and have not yet performed a factory reset?  Then please try to do so.

SAMBA is not a solution, as several devices in my home do not support this protocol.

Factory reset is also out of the question. There are too many configurations in my network and too many devices that I would have to reconfigure. That's out.

If you check the UPnP setting when it stops working, is the setting turned off?  Have you thought of setting a nightly reboot schedule?

As I see - the status it'is working! Everytime when i check that(!)

'Have you thought of setting a nightly reboot schedule?'

Answer:

It's a silly suggestion to use reboot — it's a last resort(!).

I don't pay big bucks for a “supposedly” PREMIUM manufacturer like ASUS so that I can now use the reboot every day function(!)

It's unfortunate that the latter firmware seem to have bugs regarding UPnP.

I assure you we are just customers like you and really can't take responsibility for the issues you are facing.  We can't even purchase the GT-BE98 here in the US through official outlets, it is not offered here, (neither the BQ16)...

I can only suggest things that may work, and as you note it's really up to you whether you will try them or not...

A couple of possibiles:

Try the other USB port, (yes I am aware that one is V 3 and the other V 2 USB)...

Roll back the firmware, then re-update the firmware.

Do an in place settings backup and restore.

These are the other things to try that I can think of.

No need to be hostile towards fellow ASUS customers please...

Just wondering, is you Windows network set as private or public?

Is there any time frame associated with the failure to recognize the drive.  If you could pin down a time when this happens, you might be able to find something in the router log.

If the drive is going to sleep, maybe it can't re-establish on its own.  You might try leaving one device on the drive while using another device to view your photos.

I don't currently have a drive connected so I can't test my system.

Edit:  Are you using the drive in the USB 2.0 or 3.0 port?

Yes, the disk is connected to USB 3.0. Generally speaking, you're asking silly questions—I'm writing about routers, not clients. So it doesn't matter what type of network is set up on the client(!). Especially since I'm writing using the example of a Samsung TV(!). Are you reading my post carefully before asking questions?!?!

The fact you think my questions are silly, means you don't understand the troubleshooting process.

Sorry.

I apologize, I may have gotten a little carried away, but I am irritated by trivial problems in very expensive equipment, and my choice was motivated by the desire to pay a little more for the equipment, but to have the software refined.

So I apologize for my previous post.

Out of curiosity, why is this router not available in the US?
