GT-BE98 mesh with two GT-AX11000 Pros as nodes adding an extender VERY bad speeds

I've tried everything I can think of on this.  I need to add an extender for some older IoT devices that won't play with my AiMesh, neither will they work with the guest network pro SSID I setup to use only one router and only on 2.4ghz.  These devices do connect just fine to the extender (an Asus RP-AX58) but the speeds are awful and I don't know why.

Speed tests with my phone (on WiFi 7), standing next to the extender but connecting to the router get 400mb-500mb, but stand in the same place, same phone, same test, connected to the extender (on WiFi 6) I get 500kb!-750kb!  Yes that's Kb.  The extender's light is white (a good connection) and the extender app shows no issues. The extender's web interface shows a link rate of around 300mb.  Yes ALL firmware is current.  I have no issues at all with my AiMesh nor any of the other wired or wireless devices.

I also tried a TP-Link RE220 extender, the exact same issue.  So is there some setting on the GT-BE98 or in AiMesh settings I'm not aware of?

Sorry edited my original speeds.  I had the wrong test, it was using 5ghz not 2.4ghz.  Fixed.

I have a RP-AX58.  It works well/okay but it is Ethernet Backhaul.

I'm afraid I'm not fond of the internal antennae design.  The ones with external antennae work better, especially if you're gonna run them completely wirelessly.  It's also unfortunate that ASUS does not appear to sell any RPs with external antennae like TP-Link does.  (I have a TP-Link RE815XE that runs great as a range extender to a GT-AXE11000)...

I guess "I fixed it."  Did a factory reset of the router and both nodes and set it backup just like it was before. Now?  No problems.  Weird.
