GT-BE98 incorrect password error

FNU0180
Level 7

I have the same issue as described here: GT-BE98 6GHz issues - Republic of Gamers Forum - 1013919 (asus.com) (unfortunately this is closed, however, none of the possible solutions there worked).

In short: All devices will show incorrect password (I did not change the password and the devices were logged in properly just before). In the settings the correct password is displayed.

I tried restarting the router, reflash it with the latest firmware and resetting, but nothing works. The guest networks always works, there is no incorrect password error.

Same issue here: Asus GT-BE98 Forgets Wifi Password (except guest) | SNBForums

And also here: ASUS GT-BE98 forgets WIFI password (700$ router does not work properly) : r/ASUS (reddit.com)

Is there any fix?

Update 24/08/15: 😱

  • I can reproduce the problem by rebooting the router. Everytime I reboot the router all connected devices will show the incorrect password error. I can then temporarely fix it by >Wireless>General, click "WPA Pre-Shared Key" (that still shows the correct password that I initially set), delete the password, re-enter the identical password and click "Apply"
  • The problem occurs with both, Smart Connect enabled or disabled
  • I do not use WiFi7 or MLO
  • Resetting the router did not solve the problem

Hi @FNU0180

Please be sure to submit feedback via the app or web GUI. I've attached the SOP for you to follow.

Thank you. I sent the feedback.

I got this message at the end:

However, when I clicked debug file I got a 404 not available, so I could not send a debug file.

Will ASUS contact me directly to solve this very, very tedious bug?

The 404 means some site is not available.  You might verify the locations you are connecting to are available from your country's location.

I suppose checking your anti-virus to make sure it is not blocking, and you have access to locations where your files are being kept.

If something is being blocked, it may even explain why your passwords are not saving.

Thank you. Yes the content is not available. However, nothing is being blocked here. And I do not see any connection to the problem with the password that stops working. I think this is a seperate issue with the 404 that I encountered.

I have sent the feedback and this is waht I get as answer;

I think this is some kind of automated answer. It looks like no human ever read my feedback. Of course I did not forget the password. And I have already done a factory reset..

Hi,

I know the team is aware of this issue.  Can you let me know when exactly you submitted the feedback?

The issue with the password or 404 error?

I sent the feedback on 2024-08-04

Yes please. Will help to pin it down with them.

Maybe we need to get more involved with your "Guest Networks" to understand what might be happening.

When I set up my system, I used a basic SSID.  That same SSID is still showing on my Wireless page in the Web GUI.

When I set up MLO, I created a new SSID with the MLO designation.  Setting up the MLO also created the IoT for that network.  So now, all three SSIDs use the same password.

I know, if you create a separate guest network, you can use a different password.  It does appear you can change the password for the MLO-IoT network on the Guest Network Pro page.  I would try that, but I have several devices currently connected to it.  I do not have any additional guest networks.

You might try setting all of your networks to the same password to see if it helps.

Beyond that, have you requested a Router exchange to see if your router is the problem?

I have my regular SSID and a guest network with two different passwords. I set both WLAN to the same password, however, the error appeared again.
