GT-AXE16000 USB Ethernet Adapter

I'm looking for advice on how to add a LAN ethernet port to the GT-AXE16000 router via USB ethernet adapter. I've been able to use the adapter as a WAN ethernet port but the adapter is not recognized as an ethernet port when the router's dual WAN function is disabled. Would someone please advise how to get the GT-AXE16000 USB 3.0 port to function as an ethernet port for LAN devices. The USB ethernet adapter model is Sabrent NT-SS5G. The computer has the adapter's NT-SS5G Windows driver installed. The attached image shows that the router recognizes the adapter but the computer does not negotiate a connection to the router when plugged in to adapter.

Did you see something in the manual that caused you to think those USB ports could handle that function?

I see using a drive or 3g/4g dongles should work, but not sure about using it for a USB Ethernet adapter.

I had checked whether the USB 3.0 port had any ethernet adapted capability by asking an Asus chat support representative -- and they said it did. Apparently I made the mistake of assuming the USB to ethernet capability was more than just a dual WAN failover/load balance function. Unless I am missing a setting, it seems like the USB to ethernet capability does not apply to LAN. I am hoping that someone who is more familiar with this function and the router's UI could guide me to a setting which enables the USB to ethernet capability for LAN. This picture shows how the USB ethernet adapter is ready for a 5GbE WAN connection -- after the dual WAN feature has been enabled.

I'm afraid I am not aware of anyone trying to use the USB for LAN.  I see in your screen shot 10GE 1 is not used.  I would assume that one would just plug in the Ethernet LAN connection there?

I am attaching a screen shot of my DECO BE95 USB setting page.  There appears to be a noise concern USB 3.0 to 2.4 GHz at high speed...

So I do not think it was made to support Ethernet LAN.  It also wasn't planned for use as Ethernet WAN as you can also use 10 GE 1 (or 10 GE 2) as WAN...

Could you explain why you want to use it as LAN vs any of the other Ethernet ports, other than for testing?

The seemingly unoccupied 10GbE port is being used by my NAS/server but it was turned off when that screenshot was taken, and the other 10GbE link is my desktop connection.

Since my last post I have been informed by another Asus support representative that it is actually possible to use the router's USB as an adapted LAN ethernet port but for some unknown reason the router and computer did not successfully auto negotiate the connection. Now the problem is that the computer is being remotely accessed so I cannot see and reconfigure the system's LAN settings after it's been disconnected from the network. I will retry when I have direct video output.

I've made some hardware upgrades and need more LAN ethernet ports. Rather than spending money on a network switch, I wanted to use the USB ethernet adapter that I already own.

Another possible solution would be to enable the dual WAN feature and set USB as the primary WAN link and re-assign the 2.5GbE port from WAN to LAN.

Have you tried not enabling any of those USB scenarios?  The fact it is showing as a 3G dongle probably means it is setup for that specific situation.

I may order a Ethernet to USB but I only currently have USB C versions.

I assume that you're referring to the USB settings within the dual WAN feature. If so, then yes, I made sure that the 2.5GbE port was set as the primary WAN before the dual WAN feature was disabled, and then I retried the adapted USB ethernet connection. I may end up buying a switch after all.

I mean this..  But you might try disabling the auto 4/5 G tethering on the Dual WAN page.

No, I haven't changed any of the settings on the USB Application menu because I was told by the Asus support representative that the USB ethernet adapter should be plug and play -- the router and device are supposed to auto negotiate the connection. Then I asked if anyone at Asus Networking had tested and verified if the adapted USB to ethernet function works for LAN connections, and was told by the rep that they have tested it. I forgot to ask if the USB 2.0 port also has the same capability before the end of the chat conversation.

I have ordered an adapter and will be testing it with my AXE16000, which is not currently in service.  Might be able to get that done by Saturday.
