BUG-Parental controls/time scheduling is wrong/backwards,cannot make single day rules

How to make a single day rule?
I want to lets say ONLY allow internet access on a Friday from 16:30 to 21:30,just this 5hr slot.
The rule asks me to block internet access............
Start = 21:30
Finish=16:30
The finish is counted/implemented as Saturday 16:30 not Friday.
ok ok so lets start 00:01 and this does indeed let the internet start at 16:30 on Friday but when does it go off?
I cannot stop the internet on the Friday after it starts at 16:30.

Try to make 2 rules,one for weekdays the other for the weekend
16:30-21:30 for weekday school hrs,little longer on the Friday
split times on weekends so they're not sat on the xbox all day
But Rule1 spills over on the Fri/Sat
rule2 trips up on Sun/Mon

You cannot get a properly working time schedule using the stock settings/rules.

I suppose I have to ask, do you set up the start time of 21:30 or does the router do that? The first 16:30 time would be on Saturday, not the same day.

If it showed start at 16:30 and stop at 21:30, it should work as you expect.

What router do you have?

Rules ask when to block,a start time and finish time.
Start time = start time of blocking.
Finish = finish time of blocking.
So yes you see the problem.
Start time of 16:30 would start blocking from 16:30.

And as you see you cannot get 1 rule to work within its 24hr day.
It's the same method in ALL routers or at least the RT5300 and the AX11000 use the same method.

You could get the rules to use for a 24hr period but you need 2 rules for each day.

00:00 - 16:30 rule 1
2130 - 23:59 rule 2

I just set my system up the way indicated on the attachment. I expect it to start blocking at 10:00 and unblock at 12:00.

I will let you know what actually happens. I did enable the block after I took the snip and this is on an AXE11000.

Well, the block seems to work as advertised. It shut down at 10 am and opened up at 12 pm or 2 hours after blocking.

Ye that configuration will work because it doesn't cross the day boundary
Now try 1 rule to allow internet from 16:30 - 21:30,you cannot as 2 rules are needed.

The 'rules' general idea is everything is allowed until a rule says block.
But it should be the other way around.
its parental control
meaning its been activated so it should be everything is blocked until the parent says otherwise=a rule to allow.

or is that just me?

If I am going to allow internet form 16:30 (4:30 pm) to 9:30 then I have to block everything after 9:30pm to 16:30 the next day.

If you are saying you cannot go past midnight, then it might require another rule from midnight to 16:30.

I will try and get back, maybe tomorrow 😉

If you were able to use rules to "allow", would not the same situation occur if you crossed day boundaries?

True

Correct

No because you wouldn't be crossing any boundary,you would only be allowing in any given 24hr period.

Here's how you get that 5hr period.........

Rule 1 on a Thursday
Start=21:30
Finish=16:30 this rule finishes Friday 16:30

Rule 2 on a Friday
Start=21:30

Alternatively...........

Rule 1 on a Friday
Start=00:00
Finish=16:30

Rule 2 on a friday
Start=21:30
Finish=23:59

It is the same day and it came off the block at 16:35. I will wait until tomorrow to verify the operation, but just wanted to show you this.

Only one block period was scheduled per day.

Well, the block acted as I expected. With just the one block period, my system was blocked from last night until a few minutes ago.

Maybe your router is different or has different settings available.

I hope you get it working to your satisfaction.
