AXE7800 6Ghz network disappears

I bought a RT-AXE7800 about two months ago because we were buying two Quest 3 headsets for PCVR, and I wanted each headset to stream on a different network band, one on 5Ghz and one on 6Ghz to insure there are no issues.

I have been having lots of issues with my 6Ghz (or Wifi 6e) connection. The 6Ghz SSID is not visible most of the time, and the devices cannot connect to the network.

Here is some in depth information:

  • Smart Connect is disabled, each network has its own name (Des2, Des5, Des6 for 2.4, 5 and 6 Ghz)
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz works without any issues, runs perfectly. Is always available and any device can connect to it.
  • 6Ghz network seems to appear and disappear randomly. It will be available for a minute or two after rebooting the router, and then disappear. After that, it will sporadically reappear for a few seconds.
  • If I manage to connect to the 6Ghz networks, it works flawlessly. I can play for >3 hours without any issues, but once I disconnect, like restarting the Quest 3, its gone again and I struggle for 10 min to reconnect to the 6Ghz network.
  • The router is in the same room, not even 2m away from my devices.
  • This problem persists for both Quest 3 headsets, my Pixel 8 Pro and a desktop computer that can connect to Wifi6e. All have the exact same issue.
  • Using Wifi Analyzer on my phone, it shows that there are no 6Ghz networks present (completely empty). Except, every few minutes (roughly every 5 minutes), the network would pop into existence for 5-10 seconds and then disappear again.
  • I have tried the following: Manually specify bandwidth and channel, disable PSC, increase Group Key Rotation Interval, disable Roaming assistant, disable WMM APSD.

This has been a very frustrating experience, does anyone have any suggestions for me to fix this issue?

Try Enabling PSC, (those are the higher compatibility channels).  Also what appeared to help my son’s MacBook is disable OFDMA/802.11ax MU-MIMO

For your reference my current Professional tab settings on an AXE16000.

Disabling OFDMA/802.11ax MU-MIMO seems to have fixed my issues! It still take a good 30 seconds, but now I can connect much more consistently to the network.

I am still going to test it a bit further, I have not had much chance to actually test it properly.

Thanks jzchen!!
