ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 - I'm not sure what's going on

So, I have the ASUS ROG Rapture GT-AX6000 Dual-Band WiFi 6, and it works great. I have fiber internet.

Now, for the first time, I decided to watch a movie on my phone. I was on the 2nd floor, in my bedroom, which is right above the router. It stuttered a lot. I was connected to a Terramaster NAS.

I tried using Speedtest about 6" away from the router, and all I can get is about 700 Mbps - is that correct?

I looked at some of the WiFi setting and I can't see anything which would affect it, but I'm no IT guy.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks

Well, that was interesting. I had a notice from TerraMaster saying please don't throw away the unit and let us try to resolve the issue.

This morning I heard back from another tech support person who said:

"Thank you for your detailed description and excluding other influencing factors. Please go to the control panel - file services - SMB, set the minimum protocol to SMB2, the maximum protocol to SMB3, or force the use of SMB3."

The minimum was set to SMB1, and thta's all I had to change to make the ****** thing work.

Yes, it worked.

I still don't see how to "force SMB3" but I asked for clarification.

What is the speedtest speed when in your room where you were streaming?  700 Mbps 6" away is plenty speed but that is 1/2 foot from the router...

It's 650 Mbps in the bedroom.

Is 700 Mbps the best I can expect from the router, at 6"? I thought WiFi 6 was supposed to be between 600 Mbps to around 4800 - I kinda figured 6" away should be reaching for the 4800 mark - no?

My other thought was to plug the mesh router into a Vimin 6-Port 2.5G Ethernet Switch and hope that I would get better WiFi on the second floor.

Well at 650 Mbps it should not be stuttering.  QoS can affect speed, and I typically don't enable it...

Is this router new to you?  Is it possible interference from a neighbor's WiFi or other source of "noise"?

What firmware version is it running?  There is an 8/27 update that seems to have mixed reviews....

I've had it for a couple of years. The only WiFi I use is my washer/dryer.

I checked earlier today and there is no update for the firmware, so I imagine it's the latest. GT-AX6000 : 3.0.0.6.102_34860-gc346ca4_404-ge7bfb

QoS is disabled

The latest firmware has a note on the release notes to factory/hard reset the router after installing it.  I don't suppose you've done this since 8/27?  If not, that would be my first suggestion to try.

No, I didn't do that. I have the frimware set to auto update.

I'll give it a shot tomorrow. But I need to remember how to save the configuration.

Do you have a similar router? Could you see what you get on your phone? I'm curious.

I'm afraid I don't have this router model.  I am tempted to buy one to help debug it for a while now...

Prior speed tests have been (much) faster?  Did you use iPerf?

Since I've never heard of it, the answer would be negative.

I'll look it up.

What do you get with YOUR router?

This is partly ISP service speed dependent.  I am about 10 ft from my GT-AXE16000, which is supposedly similar to the GT-AX6000 in some ways but I am not sure how.
