ASUS GT-AX11000 Repeater Mode not working

Blacktempel

Hello 🙂

so I currently use a FritzBox 7590 AX v2 and would like to use my ASUS Router (ASUS GT-AX11000 ROG) as a repeater - in Repeater mode.

Unfortunately this is not working. The router is “Connected” in repeater mode (see https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1036082/) but has no real connection to the internet. Websites are not working, ping to 8.8.8.8 or google.com do not work either.

I have called ASUS support Germany and sent an email “to be forwarded to Level 2 Support” explaining my problem in detail. The answer I have received was not really helpful, as they just said to reset my FritzBox or contact AVM (manufacturer) to figure out where the issue is.

Resetting does not help and replacing the FritzBox with Routers of other manufacturers does not solve the problem either. The repeater mode just refuses to work no matter what.

What can I do ? How do I get it to work ? Have I missed anything ? I did reset all routers multiple times (also using hardware reset button).

You set up different SSIDs on the GT-AX11000?  What about the devices are they set to static or dynamic IP addresses?

Yes, GT-AX11000 has different SSIDs. That shouldn’t be an issue right ? That’s what I did with other repeaters aswell and they worked just fine.

No device has a static IP address, so they’re all dynamic.

I noticed the in the instructions you linked it specifically says "unique SSID" so I was wondering whether you followed that or not.  It's unrelated, but when I set up my TP-Link Range Extenders they automatically duplicate the SSIDs and Passkeys, which to me logically makes more sense as a "Range Extender" or "Repeater".

Do you have the latest firmware installed?  If not try the latest, or if it's already latest, revert to an older one, (while I hope ASUS fixes this)!

Yes, all SSIDs are unique. So none is duplicated. They even assign different SSIDs in the article / manual.

When I first tried it, I had the firmware installed with which the router was delivered. I have updated to the latest one, but that has not helped at all.

I got another reply from ASUS in which they stated that it should work with a Telekom router… I have one and it does not work either. I think it is an ASUS bug, but how do I get them to investigate…

You can use the Web interface to send a Feedback log:

Left side under Advanced Settings -> Administration -> Feedback (it's a tab towards the top of the page).  Be as verbose as you feel comfortable, but use as simple English as possible because the one who receives it is likely non-English native speakers.
