Asus BE98 - Slow Wifi

Hi All

I have an Asus GT-BE98, wired speed i am getting 1.8 gig down which is what i am expecting, however on wifi i cannot get a speed higher than about 500meg

Everything has the latest firmware and updates, i am using an Iphone 17 pro max and have tried other phones as well, all of which have been tested within half a meter of the router

I have used my service providers router in exactly the same place as my ASUS router and i get really good speeds over wifi so this issue is with the Asus router

I have messed around with the settings and all i seem to be able to do is make the wifi slower

Any help much appreciated as if i cannot resolve this i will be returning my entire mesh system which i dont want to do

Many thanks

Glenn

If you run a speed test do you notice anything strange such as first a spike to high speed then rapidly slow down?  Any custom settings you made to WiFi?  VPN Client?  QoS enabled?

Hi thanks for your reply, the speedtest starts off slow and works its way up to about 450 sometimes getting up to 500, QOS is off, i have been through the settings and cant see anything that is causing this but i am not  a wifi expert, i am also not running a VPN

I have taken a previous router out of my AI Mesh network and used the settings from that in this new router so that it just takes over the role in the AI Mesh with the same setting etc the old router was much faster with the used setting hitting expected speeds

If we cannot find any settings that i can change my next plan is to reset the router and try it as a stand alone router and see if it is any faster that way

The AiMesh is limited to the lowest spec router/repeater in your network.  It is partly for this reason I have separated BE routers into one AiMesh and AX/AXE/AC routers into another.  If I understand correctly you may have replaced the highest spec router in your mesh with the GT-BE98?  My suggestion is to replace the lowest spec one, but use settings from the same one you copied from.  Try testing after removing the lowest spec router/RP and see if speed improves.  (Under -> AiMesh -> (select the node router) -> Management (tab)).

Resetting the router and starting fresh and not using the saved configuration sorted it all out, all working well now, thanks for the help thought

Does the ISP's router have a MAC address on it?  If so, check the WAN page of the ASUS router and put that number is that Special Requirement from ISP space.  You may even try clicking on the MAC Clone button and it may put some address in there you could try.

Hi All just a quick update, initially i saved the settings from my old AI Mesh router and used them in the new router, so i thought i would try resetting the new router and setting up my AI mesh again, a bit of a task as i have 5 nodes, but i did it anyway and this has sorted it all out

Thus i think, if you are going to use the same model of router as a replacement then saving the setting and uploading them to the new router is ok, but if it is a different model i would set it up as new

Its more work but has srted out my issue

Appreciate everyone help

Thank you

Thanks for sharing that.  While I have one node on one AiMesh I have 4 nodes on another.  Yet I can rebuild quickly because not much is changed beyond defaults.  Note to self to warn others of this possible issue....
