I went to bed knowing there was a minor storm last night. Nothing too serious. The next day I woke up, saw my stove clock blinking, and realized there was possibly a power outage. (Unless someone out there reset the circuit breaker for the whole neighborhood, I doubt it.
I had to set the stove clock and then looked at my desktop. Motherboard lights are still there. Kept wondering if the desktop is OK.
I have a surge protector and figured since it was shut down already last night before that happened, it would definitely be fine.
I was reading somewhere online you can flip the PSU power off, then press the power button to drain the power reserves, and then flip the surge power button off.
I likely will turn off the surge after I flip the PSU button and drain the power reserve. Proper way to go, right?
And unplug the cable from the PSU and reset the PSU? What about the outlet in the wall? Just wanted to be sure everything is fine.
What would you do if you were me? Advice?
I made a rule now for myself if there are thunderstorms coming. I will shut off everything and unplug the power from the wall to reduce the risks.
Thanks for helping educate me with preparation.

Do you think it is required to reset your psu even if it was shut down prior before a power outage incident?
What is the proper procedure to make sure everything is safe? There are no issues with the PSU or anything. I was just reading info on how to properly take care in case there had been a power outage. Although the desktop was already shut down before there was a power outage. I am grateful for having a surge protector in the first place. I already have another backup in case I ever need it. I have plenty of joules anyways.

So to be clear, you haven't even attempted to power it back on yet?
Don't get caught up in what-ifs. If there had been any surge or current fed into the system, the damage would already have been done. Just fire up the system as you would normally

It was shut down before that ever happened. I saw my oven clock blinking when I woke up, so I am grateful I have a surge protector, so yeah, I could boot it regularly if I wanted to. I just wanted to see if I could follow what I read on Reddit to be sure everything is OK. It is going to be OK since I have a surge protector anyways. I just wanted to know if resetting the PSU before booting it would reduce the risks. Just to be on the safe side, but you are right, I can boot it regularly.
I made a 3-rule.
Shut down and flip the PSU off and unplug when there is rain.
Keep it unplugged if you sleep before thunderstorms and before you sleep.
Turn off the PSU and unplug when on vacation to reduce the risk.
I didn't mean to waste your time with ramifications like this. There is definitely nothing wrong with the PSU anyways.
