Plants vs Zombies Fusion - Causing Unexpected PSU Load?

AstaBlackPink
Level 7

Hey ROG crew, been testing out this fan game I found here:

It's a pretty fun take on the classic, but I've noticed some really strange behavior on my system when I play it. My monitoring software shows some serious, sharp power spikes from my GPU that I don't see even in AAA titles. Wondering if anyone else has seen this with indie or fan-made projects before.

Game Information

  • Name: Plants vs Zombies Fusion

  • Source: From the link provided above

  • Type: Fan-made project

My System Specifications

  • PSU: ROG THOR 1200W Platinum II

  • GPU: ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090

  • CPU: Intel i9-13900K

  • Motherboard: ROG MAXIMUS Z790 HERO

Observed Power Behavior

  • Idle power draw is completely normal.

  • Standard gameplay shows expected power usage for a 2D title.

  • During certain in-game events, like large waves of zombies or specific plant food effects, my GPU power spikes to its maximum transient limit.

  • The system is stable and hasn't crashed, but the sharpness of the spikes is a bit concerning.

Is this something the Thor is designed to handle without any issue, or could these kinds of potentially unoptimized power demands from a non-commercial game cause long-term stress on the components? It just seems odd that this particular title would cause such a reaction from the hardware.

Any thoughts or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
