Previous phone had Game Mode that would disable notifications popping up on screen.
I thought the Game Genie would basically do that.
It does that, and more, which is too much. Edit: I found a way to control this better, described at the end of post.
If you have apps that overlay the screen, turning on block notifications will hide those apps...
I'm a Pokemon Go player. I will record content from time to time and I don't want notifications to dox me or what not or just ruin the video, right. So I thought, let's turn on the "No Alerts" toggle. And I realized an accessory app called CalcyIV is hidden when No Alerts is turned on. That's really not good and my best solution until there's an update to the OS and Game Genie is to disable notifications from popping up entirely. (Maybe I can play around with Tasker / Automate and make it so when a game is active it will prevent pop ups, but then I'm relying on the OS to not kill that background process which seems fishy.)
It's kind of weird how my old phone from a few years ago is better for gaming than a self-proclaimed gaming phone.
My other frustration with this OS and CalcyIV is everytime I launch it it warns me that it can read my screen. Well, duh, that's it's primary purpose. I think it would be really handy if I could say "yes, I know, and I forever grant this app permission to read my screen" instead of having to go through toggling either Single App -> Entire Screen, or if I choose the default Single App, I would then need to have it choose Pokemon Go.
Big sad face if you ever had the idea to be a content creator, but still like notifications when you are trying to use your phone for day to day tasks.
Edit: If you long-hold on the "No Alerts" button in the Game Genie menu when running an associated app, you can get to a configuration page that allows you to set exceptions. In here you can add Calcy IV and other apps that you want overlays (floating notifications) to be allowed. That solves one issue, but does not resolve the screen-recording allowance issue where I cannot set a permanent permission 😞
