ROG DELTA S (Wired) 7.1 Surround Not Working

Knight2pwn

So I plugged in my Delta S headphones and updated everything to find the 7.1 surround no longer works. Everything else seems to but when surround is enabled only the FL and FR channels play audio. I have seen others have the same issue here on the boards but they mostly say it was fixed with a firmware update, but again, there seem to be no updates for my headset. The firmware it has currently is 0.1.9740 and I have uninstalled everything using the armory crate uninstaller and reinstalled the latest version to no avail. Ideas?

I wonder if it is related to the "insufficient USB resources" error msg that happens when the Delta's are plugged into USB 3.0 now? I have no USB 2.0's to test myself.

Hello Knight2pwm

This is perfectly normal as it is "Virtual Surround".

In Armoury Crate, turn on the Virtual Surround Sound and click on each of the 7 points in the dial. The .1 in 7.1 is the subwoofer, which for us is the bass.

Thank you for both telling me that the virtual sound is virtual, and to turn the feature on. Good points to remember. I was wondering how they got 7 speakers and a sub in a pair of headphones. My point is that there is no virtualization anymore. At all. The Delta's used to have one of the better virtual sound implementations but now effectively don't have one at all. With the feature turned on you can manually click on the speakers and you get the voice saying fl or fr audio playing. There is no difference in the audio at all and this carries over into games. Maybe this was changed from how it used to work, which was quite effective, for a reason. As you say it is now working as it is meant to. Then Delta and Delta derivatives, which is practically all ASUS headsets, don't have a virtualization setup anymore.

Hi @Knight2pwn ,

have you confirmed that the firmware of your headphones has been updated to the latest version?

When did the issue start occurring? Is there no difference when you toggle the virtual surround sound effect on and off?

To further investigate the issue, please provide a screenshot of the Armoury Crate update center page, and kindly private message me the serial number of your headphones. Thank you.

Thank you for the reply. PM sent.
