Azoth Extreme onboard memory bug

bereavement
Level 8

I upgraded from Azoth to Azoth Extreme yesterday and I encountered a bug that seem only happens in Azoth Extreme.

There's a feature I use on Azoth, that I set the scroll click to be a macro for password in Armoury Crate.

For Azoth Extreme once I set that up in Armoury Crate, that Macro only works if I do not power cycle the keyboard or not charging the keyboard. What I meant by that

  • Assign the pre-recorded macro to scroll click and save to the Azoth Extreme onboard memory
  • the Macro works

           BUT

  • If I power cycle the keyboard or change from 2.4Ghz to USB or to Bluetooth then  the Macro will not work anymore
  • If I plug in a USB cable to charge the keyboard but no power cycling the keyboard, the Macro function also break

And this bug seems only affect Macro, for example in my case, I

  • Assign scroll up as volume up
  • Assign scroll down as volume down
  • Assign scroll click as Macro

If I power cycle the keyboard or plugin the USB-C cable, only the Macro feature break, the volume up and volume down feature will keep working. I also tried to assign other features such as

  • Open Website
  • Keyboard Function
  • Windows Shortcut
  • Launch and Application

They all work as intended, the assigned feature saved to the keyboard onboard memory, power cycle or charging will not break these assigned functions. The only exception is Macro, it "unassigned/break" whenever the keyboard is power cycled or plugged in USB-C cable.

I also tried to use key Macro instead of scroll wheel to assign the Macro, for example assign "Fn + Enter" as Macro, it works as intended, will not break after power cycle/USB charging.

I think this is a bug from either the keyboard firmware or the latest version Armoury crate.

What I tried but did not work at all

  • Use Armoury Crate uninstaller to uninstall Armoury Crate > reboot > reinstall Armoury Crate again
  • use Fn+Esc to factory reset the keyboard > uninstall Armour Crate > Reboot > Reinstall Armour Crate again
  • delete all the HID-Keyboard and other ROG drivers in Device Manager, uninstall Armoury Crate > reboot > reinstall Armoury Crate
  • Tried other USB ports with the OMNI receiver
  • Tried to connect the keyboard as wired mode while setting up the Macro and button assignment in various different USB ports
  • Tried different USB cables
  • Assign the Macro to different scroll function such as scroll up, scroll down, scroll click
  • Record different Marco including different names, different macro actions, different save slot
  • Tried to assign the feature in different profile including 1,2,3,4,5,6(Default)
  • Tried to create a new profile in Armoury Crate then save to Keyboard onboard memory
  • Tried to reset all profiles and sync all profile via Armoury Crate
  • Updated Armoury Crate, Azoth Extreme, Omni Receiver to the latest version.

Hi @bereavement

Can you show me the macro you've setup?

It might be helpful if you record a separate log within AC for every instance, too.

Thanks for getting back to me, is that possible to send the video to you via PM? I am uploading them to youtube and I do not wish to post in public showing my credentials and other privacy concern.

Hi, you can use www.streamable.com

Or yes you can PM me if you'd prefer.

Thanks, I already PM'd you, please check your inbox : ) Thanks in advance

Thanks,

I was able to replicate this. Will pass to the team for a resolution.

Thanks! Look forward to your update.

by the way I don’t know if you also experienced this but I think the current firmware of Azoth Extreme have another bug. That the battery indicator report wrong battery level.
For example when the aforementioned Macro not working with scroll knob after assignment and power cycle/plug in usb. The battery level indicator will drop to 50% and sometimes drop to 0%

while the actual battery is over 90%. It’s difficult to explain and hard to replicate, it happens maybe 1 out of 20 times when the power cycle break the Macro assignment on the scroll knob.

I am pretty sure my keyboards hardware is fine as if I do not assign the Macro to the scroll knob, the battery life is normal and will never suddenly drop to 50% or 0%

Hi,

I can't say I noticed this regarding the battery indicator, will have a look into it later. The team are aware of the macro issue, so expect a fix at some point in the near future.

good to know! that battery indicator bug seems only to happen when that macro issue "short-circuited" the Azoth Extreme and factory default the keyboard itself. Since after I don't assign that scroll click marco, this battery indicator issue never happened again and the battery life seems normal. (around 5~6% drain a day with RGB light at 50% brightness)

I think that battery indicator bug is linked to the macro bug, so please no worries. looking forward to the firmware update
