Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 - Firmware update not working

Freppi

I got myself a new  Asus ROG Strix Scope II 96 wireless keyboard today.

I followed the instructions in the manual and the first thing I did after plugin in the keyboard was to install the Armoury Crate software and update the firmware of the keyboard.

The Armory Crate detects that there is a new firmware version available and I can see it here:

Then I follow the rest of the instructions:

The keyboard is already in wired mode via USB, and I connect the USB dongle into another USB port of my PC:

However, when I click on "OK" nothing happens. The update still shows as available and the firmware version of my keyboard is still 5.00.02

I have also tried to uninstall the Armoury Crate software using the Uninstall Tools and then reinstalled the software, but the same issue remains.

Please help, this is my first experience with Asus devices and first time using the Armoury Crate software. I was  also told that the latest firmware version includes latency improvements and I really want to get my keyboard properly updated and working.

Have you had any luck figuring it out? I am also having the same exact problem. I have tried searching and nothing is coming up.

I have also noticed that the ROG Omni Receiver does not show up under "Device". I have read that could be due to not being able to do the firmware update. This has been very frustrating to say the least.

If i happen to figure it out I will let you know!

After trying the same thing over and over again, the update finally got through. Unfortunately, I don't know how it happened so I can not provide any instructions on how to fix it. I was just following the same instructions over and over, switching the mode of the keyboard between wired and wireless mode and retrying the update every time.

Try the following scenario exactly step-by-step and see if it helps:
1. Before you start the process, have the keyboard in wireless mode, with the receiver plugged in the USB-C cable
2. Go the the update page and click on Update
3. When you are asked if you want to update the firmware, press Yes
4. You should then get the following pop up. Before you click OK, unplug the receiver from the USB cable, and plug it in to some other USB port on your PC. Plug the USB-C cable into your keyboard and switch the mode from Wireless to Wired. Only after you do this, you click on the OK button.

5. Im not 100% sure but I think this is the exact order Ive done when my update got through. Again, I can not confirm but I think the order of doing things might be important. I think on my previous failed attempts, I already had the keyboard in the correct mode (wired, with the receiver plugged in to another port) even before I click the Update button and maybe that was the reason.

Let me know, if this works for you.

Oh and here are the firmware versions I got after the update, as reported by the Armoury Crate

Hi @Freppi

I suspect you weren't perhaps plugging the USB in and toggling the mode switch to receiver mode, as accepting the prompt won't let you continue. I'd agree it seems slightly counter intuative.

No, I totally understand the process and I had everything connected as expected on every failed update attempt (keyboard in wired mode through the USB-C cable, and the receiver in another USB port on my PC).
However, I was doing this ahead of time, before being prompted to do it by the software so I suspect that might play some part in this.

Maybe the software expects to toggle the switch and replug the receiver only after you click on Update and before clicking the OK button.

I dont know its just a theory, maybe I can test it on some future firmware update when it happens.

I noticed that if I don't have the the USB C cable plugged in and the switch set to wired mode then the Armory Crate does not recognize the keyboard under devices. As soon as I plug in the USB C and set the switch to the middle (wired mode) it will then show up again. I am not currently at my PC otherwise I would add some screen shots. I'll be at my brothers this weekend and will see if I have any better luck using his PC to do the firmware update.

I will also try the steps you mentioned earlier that you think might have worked.

I had the same issue. I got mine to work only after I connected my keyboard via Bluetooth and switched back to "Wired". Hope this helps!

I have tried that as well but unfortunately I have had no luck with anything. I have also tried switching between wired and wireless a ton of times and changing which ports the cables are plugged into with no luck. I am at a complete loss of how to get this firmware update to work and am honestly starting to get very frustrated.

I was finally able to get the firmware update to work and this is what I did.

I uninstalled armoury crate using ASUS's uninstaller from their website and re-downloaded the newest version (I did not use the Windows uninstaller). I had the wired cable and the 2.4 GHz receiver plugged into the computer. Then I switched the keyboard toggle to the left (2.4 ghz receiver) and then clicked update. Before clicking "yes" on the pop-up, I switched the keyboard toggle back to the wired position (middle). After that, I clicked "yes" on the pop-up window and the update went through.  This was after multiple attempts and it finally worked.

Hopefully this helps someone else as well.

Just got this keyboard and would like to update the firmware but I'm having the same issue. I've tried many combinations of connection modes and off/on etc and no luck. Anybody got any other tips?
