I've had two Asus laptops in the last year - a Vivobook Pro 16x OLED and a Zephyrus G16 2024 model. Both times I asked Asus about RAM/storage upgrades. Both times they were WAY off and gave me completely incorrect information. Why don't they know what their own products can do? Are they super-super risk-adverse or just don't have the information?
The Vivobook came with 16 GB - one soldered, one 8 GB stick. They said I couldn't add more than a 16 GB stick for a total of 24 GB. I didn't believe them so I bought a 32 and installed it - it worked perfectly fine - and still does.
On the Zephyrus, they say I can't add a 4 TB NVME drive - only two 2 TB drives. I added a 4 TB in addition to the 1 TB it comes with - as have dozens of other people. Works fine.
Isn't Asus just hurting themselves giving people the wrong information and making their products look much less upgradeable than they actually are?

We understand that many users choose to install components beyond the recommended specifications. However, please note that our stability and compatibility tests are conducted based on the recommended specifications for laptop upgrades. If you encounter compatibility issues when installing components beyond these specifications, we recommend testing with the recommended components for optimal performance. Thank you for your understanding.

I would think Asus would be motivated to demonstrate additional upgrade options on their laptops as it demonstrates a much better future-proof capability than their own very limited, extremely conservative specs show. Adding a 4 TB drive is not exactly cutting edge "beyond recommended specifications" - it is becoming a fairly standard upgrade option on all laptops. But okay...your decision.
