I have a ROG Zephyrus M16 (2023) GU604VY-XS97 laptop, which is brand new. It’s only been with me for about 1.5 weeks, but the issues started right out of the box—it randomly shuts down or freezes at any time. This happens while scrolling through pages, playing games (most often), or doing light tasks.
The laptop runs at temperatures of 45-55°C, so it shouldn’t be overheating, but the issue still persists. I’ve already tried everything I could—reinstalled all possible drivers, updated every driver available, and even removed all MyASUS and Armoury Crate services and apps, replacing them with G Helper. Unfortunately, none of these changes made a difference.
When the laptop shuts down, there are two outcomes:
All drivers and the BIOS are up to date. I’ve switched through different GPU modes (Eco, Standard, and Ultimate), but the same issue keeps happening.
I’ve also followed most of the troubleshooting steps from this ASUS support page, except for a full factory reset.
I’ve recorded logs of the most recent shutdown, where the laptop went dark and only started working again after closing and reopening the lid. I’ll try to capture the logs next time when the device becomes entirely unresponsive.

I also noticed in the logs that there are numerous errors with the following message:
Metadata staging failed, result=0x80070490 for container.
Could this be contributing to the issue?

Windows Reinstallation and Current Status of the Issue
Windows was fully reinstalled from a USB drive on October 19th. I immediately installed version 24H2 (previously it was 23H2) and downloaded all drivers from the ASUS website, as well as through MyASUS and Armory Crate. This partially helped – the random shutdowns have significantly decreased.
Previously, the laptop would enter sleep mode over five times a day, and it would crash 1-2 times. Now, in the past three days, it has only entered sleep mode twice, and that was during regular usage. So far, I haven't encountered any issues during gaming, but I've noticed that the CPU temperatures have increased.
Previously, the temperatures during regular tasks would peak at 70°C, but now they reach 80°C. In games, the maximum I used to see was 90°C, but now it gets as high as 97°C.
I am also still seeing many errors in the Event Viewer. However, the reinstallation of Windows seems to have partially resolved the issue.

I'm glad to hear that the random shutdown issue has improved after reinstalling Windows! Regarding the temperatures, please try setting the fan mode in Armoury Crate to Turbo mode to see if that makes any difference.
Additionally, you mentioned that there are still many errors in the Event Viewer. Have you checked the laptop's performance status through the MyASUS application? This could help us better understand the underlying issues.
If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to let us know. Thank you!

Hi, it seems I’ve found a possible reason for the random sleep issue. Interestingly, this specific log entry didn’t appear before reinstalling Windows, but it’s showing now. Here are the relevant log entries before the laptop rebooted:
```
Power Manager did not request to ignore all input (INPUT_SUPPRESS_REQUEST=0)
Power Manager did not request to ignore all input (INPUT_SUPPRESS_REQUEST=1)
Event ID 701
```
After this warning, the laptop rebooted. So far, I haven't found a solution to this issue. I ran a diagnostic scan through the MyASUS app, but it didn’t detect any problems, and all components seem to be functioning correctly.
I’ve noticed that, very rarely during gaming, the display briefly switches as if the power adapter was unplugged. It then immediately returns, behaving as if the power was reconnected. This usually happens when I manually disconnect the power adapter, but now it seems to happen randomly.
Additionally, I’ve observed sudden FPS drops lasting for a second, followed by a recovery, again mimicking the behavior of the laptop disconnecting and reconnecting to power. There are no signs of power issues from the outlet, which leads me to believe the problem may lie with either the power adapter or the battery.
This issue is infrequent and unpredictable—it could happen within 10 minutes of launching a game or not at all for an hour or two.

A new day, new findings. The laptop also shuts down even without the adapter, meaning it’s unrelated to the power source. The frequency of these shutdowns has increased, and it might be an issue with the battery or motherboard. However, I just thought—could the issue be with the lid sensor malfunctioning?
This version has the 4090 and the Anime Matrix display, so it’s possible that the sensor is causing the problem. Since the keyboard and mouse stop working when the laptop shuts down, and 90% of the time I have to open and close the lid to get it working again, it seems like the sensor might randomly think I’ve closed the lid, which forces the shutdown. Still, it’s possible the problem lies in the motherboard or battery.
I think this is the last thing I could figure out about the situation, but I’ve noticed that many other people with ASUS ROG laptops report similar problems—maybe someone will find this issue familiar.

You mentioned that you’ve already tried updating the drivers, just want to confirm whether you’ve tested with the ASUS-verified display driver? This is to ensure that the issue is not caused by a driver compatibility problem.
If you have already tested the ASUS-verified display driver and the issue still persists, given the number of tests you’ve conducted, we recommend sending your laptop to a local service center for further inspection to identify the problem. Thank you.

I’ve concluded that the issue lies with the chip responsible for detecting whether the laptop is closed or not. It seems that, at random moments, the chip malfunctions and mistakenly thinks I’ve closed the laptop, causing it to go into sleep mode. After enabling the option to "do nothing" when the lid is closed, the screen now simply turns off but continues to work and can be reactivated by pressing any key on the keyboard. This 100% rules out any issues with the battery, motherboard, or power adapter.
This problem appears to affect many users, and it seems like it’s related to a defective batch of chips. From what I understand, these are Hall sensors.
