The 2024-09 Cumulative Update Preview for Windows 11 Version 23H2 (KB5043145) was released on September 26, 2024.

Skip it. Its no good on this model laptop. Many many reports of this unfortunately.

It downloads automatically if the toggle is ON for "Get the latest updates as soon as they're available". If the toggle is off, then the optional updates won't be installed.

KB5043145 – problem: Windows 11 unable to boot

Hello, Everyone,

many ASUS users have the same problem with the KB5043145 update. After installing and restarting, my laptop is unable to boot. It is sitting at the ROG screen with a spinning circle forever (forever = 20 minutes in my case, as this is how long I waited patiently). Than I had to press “power” for more than 5 seconds and Windows 11 begins its recovery. It succeeds, but the update is not installed. My Windows 11 is up t date with all the latest updates (23H2, 22631.4169) and drivers (Asus ROG G713PV | AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX | 48 GB RAM (1x32 + 1x16) | NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060).

This is what I tried:
- restarting AppReadiness service;
- moving $WinREAgent to a different location;
- launching Update Troubleshooter;
- restarting Windows Update & Background intelligent service;
- installing the update with the Windows 11 Installation Assistant ;
- installing the update from a local file (downloaded from Microsoft Update Catalog);
- resetting the following: net stop bits  |  net stop wuauserv  |  net stop msiserver  |  net stop cryptsvc  |  net stop appidsvc   |  Ren %Systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old  |  Ren %Systemroot%\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old  |  regsvr32.exe /s atl.dll  |  regsvr32.exe /s urlmon.dll  |  regsvr32.exe /s mshtml.dll  |  netsh winsock reset  |  netsh winsock reset proxy  |  rundll32.exe pnpclean.dll,RunDLL_PnpClean /DRIVERS /MAXCLEAN  |  dism /Online /Cleanup-image /ScanHealth  |  dism /Online /Cleanup-image /CheckHealth  |  dism /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth  |  dism /Online /Cleanup-image /StartComponentCleanup  |  Sfc /ScanNow  |  net start bits  |  net start wuauserv  |  net start msiserver  |  net start cryptsvc  |  net start appidsvc

All in vain. No change. Could anybody provide with a fix or a workaround? It must have something to do with ASUS motherboards, disc controllers or firmware, as so many ASUS owners share the same problems.

Regarding KB5043145, this is an optional update. According to Microsoft Support, after installing this update, some users have reported that their devices experience multiple restarts or become unresponsive, displaying blue or green screens. Some devices will automatically launch the recovery tool after repeatedly attempting to restart. Microsoft is currently investigating this issue.
