ROG Strix Scar 17 - Frequent Freezing after Log in

HantsPG91

Hello all, I am running a 2023 ROG STRIX Scar 17 having purchased it just last week. I updated all the latest BIOS updates and drivers from nVidia, AMD etc. I am encountering a very frequent issue (maybe one in three) times where after entering my log in information at the log in screen, the whole system will freeze. I can still see the screen, the SSD light continues to flash intermittently but I can not even raise the task manager etc. The only way to escape this is to hard re-boot the computer again. This is happening so many times now and not what I would expect. Is this an issue with the drivers possibly? Please can someone advise on some potential remedial action I can take.

Many thanks

Hi @HantsPG91 ,

May I ask if you have updated Windows to the latest version?
Based on your description, we recommend that you first use MyASUS to check if all hardware devices are functioning properly.
If the results from the MyASUS diagnostics show everything is normal, please refer to the following link to revert recently updated drivers to previous versions and test if this resolves the issue.

Hello there, I believe I have the latest version of Windows. MyASUS shows no problems. My update history shows a huge number of driver updates, so I am not sure where to begin to be honest?

Hi @HantsPG91 ,

Please refer to the steps provided in the following link to enter Safe Mode and test if the system freezing issue occurs:
https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1013018/

If the system works normally in Safe Mode, please revert the display card driver and rebooting to test if the issue is resolved.
If the problem still persists in Safe Mode, we recommend revert the chipset driver and hard disk driver and then rebooting to test.

Please feel free to PM me or comment again if you have any other concerns.Thank you

I had the same problem as the author. I've used AMD Cleanup Tool to delete everything & nothing more happened yet.

Hi DoboszewskijPL

I have managed to resolve the random freezing on log in screen and start up. The issue appeared to fix upon turning off the OSD function on the GameVisual screen on the Armory Crate application on the laptop, - so open Armory Crate > GameVisual and turn off OSD. I noticed that turning this off has stopped the start up and log in freezing. See how this helps? I hope it resolves your issues

I did this also & it works! Strange, but glad it's fine now. Thank you & all the best!
