ROG STRIX G814JZ-G18.I94080 RTX-4080 and USB-C Failure

Hi forum,

I am dealing with a significant GPU / USB-C issue on my G814JZ. I was running the system doing some web browsing, no other major tasks, and the system BSOD's unexpectedly. The system has been stable, no BSOD history. After reboot, I cannot get the HDMI output to work at all. I have to rearrange my USB-C docks (Plugable UD-ULTC4K's, used for different laptops but tested both just to confirm symptoms) and change to different HDMI ports on both docks just to get dual monitor support working or any video output. After finally getting back into windows, I get the following from the below screenshot. To get the RTX4080 to show up at all I have to select "show hidden devices", after which it pops up with the Device Status:

"Currently, this hardware device is not connected to the computer. (Code 45)

To fix this problem, reconnect this hardware device to the computer."

I've done several reboots / power offs. Have not yet cracked the case open to see what completely disconnecting the battery accomplishes. I can't try to reinstall NVIDIA drivers as the card isn't detected, again shown in the below. The RTX-4080 does not appear in Armory Crate or in the system BIOS, only Intel UHD graphics.

Any thoughts on troubleshooting steps to attempt?

For funsies, pulled the case, disconnected the battery. Let it sit, hit power once or twice, put it back together. Definitely had to redo BIOS settings after. Still same symptoms as above.

Well, she's totally dead now. Did a fresh windows install, went back to factory RAM and NVME assuming I'd be shipping it out. No hint of the 4080 at all on the new windows install. Seeing that second hand mainboards alone are almost a grand, I thought I'd just swap this into my 10-year-old Dell Precision M4800's HTPC spot. While getting the new OS dialed in, scaling back the CPU / undervolting, etc, I kicked on "high performance" mode in Armory Crate. This appears to have forced all video outputs, dock and laptop screen, over to the non-existent 4080. Even during a reboot, I couldn't get a boot up animation on the laptop LCD, though I could hear it hit the windows login screen and Aura was cycling through keyboard RGB patterns. I tried unplugging the battery to see if that would at least force the BIOS back to internal UHD graphics and let me get into safe mode or attempt another OS blow away. Now she's dead, totally dead. No lights, no charging indicator when I plug in the power brick.

Not even two years of light duty service out of a $2,000 laptop and it's a paperweight. Awesome.

Ordered a new Lenovo with a scaled back RTX Ada GPU and Ryzen 7 Pro. Think I'm done with ASUS for a while.
