ROG Flow 16 automatically goes in hibernation

Hey all,

Has anybody else been experiencing their laptop randomly go into hibernation mode? I will be in the middle of something, sometimes work and sometimes gaming and my monitor suddenly goes blank.

I have made sure to turn 'Smart Hibernation' off in the settings and am running my laptop in the default 'Performance' mode in Armory Crate.

This happens about 3 or 4 times a week which is just enough to be annoying ha.

PS. I will update as I gather more information.

I have a laptop fan pad underneath my laptop, blowing cool air into it and monitored the temperature of the CPU and GPU. GPU was hovering around 80 degrees @ 97% utilisation and the CPU was hovering between 86 to 96 degrees but mostly around 90-94 @ 30% utilisation.

'Turbo' mode produced the same results and failed at the same point.

Have figured out it is the 'ASUS Optimization' and 'ASUS Optimization Startup Task' services causing the issue. It might be one or both, have not tested yet but what is this service?

I tested in 'Silent' mode and the CPU stayed between 80-84 degrees and was able to get past the point where the other two modes failed.

This is occuring when I am using a cooling pad for the laptop, without it, there would be no hope.

Hi @tiztrain ,

I would like to confirm with you if you have updated the BIOS to the latest version 313, and tested with the ASUS-verified NVIDIA Graphic Driver v31.0.15.4624 and Intel Graphic Driver V31.0.101.4502.

Please refer to the instructions in this link to adjust the related settings and see if there is any improvement. Thank you.

Hey @Anbby_ROG ,

THanks for the response.

I am on BIOS 313 and I am using the latest Intel Graphics Drivers recommend by myasus. I also have the latest NVIDIA graphics drivers from their website.

Like I said above, removing the 'ASUS Optimization' and 'ASUS Optimization Startup Task'  has solved the issue. Something that you will need to log with your technical teams.

Having the same problem. Screen turned off, sounds still playing from the lap but couldn't do anything to wake it up.

Did you try my solution above to see if it resolves the issue?

Maybe I'll get my laptop a cleaner service. Feel like it's hot everytime and then triggers the hibernate more often even I already have the cooling pad.

All you need to do is 'end task' those two services and see if it fixes your issue.
