I need some help with people who might have heard about something like this. I bought a new F15 with i5 13th (edit: 11th) and a 2050. Just 3 months after purchase, the backlight in its display abruptly went out while I was downloading some games on steam. Got the motherboard replaced under warranty and then 2 weeks later the same thing happens again.
Now I am on the third motherboard and the technician couldn't understand why this happened. This time he told me to use the laptop without any external devices, including kb/m. Said it has been known to occur due to faulty peripherals before. The thing is, I don't get how a typical USB type A keyboard or mouse can do this. I never hooked up any external display or hard drives to it and my keyboard and mouse cost a pretty penny and came from Steelseries and Razer so I don't think they are faulty. Been using both for about 6 months. Besides, the backlight failure happens at random times, while using the pc, not while plugging anything in or out.
Also there should be no thermal damage. I keep an eye on the temperatures while playing and it runs pretty cool for a laptop. So what I want to know is, am I being lied to? If this happens a 3rd time, I have a bad feeling they will make up some damage and refuse warranty. Has anyone had this happen to them?
Solved! Go to Solution.

Is the unit out of warranty? Other users won't have access to your case details to fully assess the situation, so I don't understand the question.
Is it normal for three mainboards to fail in succession after a replacement? No, it's not - all the more reason to get different service staff (outside of your region) to assess the case details, IMO.
P.S users can respond here, too. It's a user to user platform.

@laptopabcd
Could you please let me know the full model of the laptop you are using?
Could you also provide me with your laptop's serial number or the previous service order so that I can perform further verification? We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Model no. FX506HF-HN025W
Serial no. R6N__________________
Update:- There's a new problem with it now. Installed and tried 2 games but neither works anymore. One has some DirectX error without any more info and the other has "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" and "D3D Device being lost". This is looking well on its way to a 3rd trip to the service centre and 50 miles of driving. It's getting to the point where I'm close to spending more money on fuel than a new board.

Since you have provided personal information (Serial Number) in a public comment, we have preemptively redacted it to prevent misuse of your information.
Based on the information you provided, your device is still undergoing the RMA process. We will coordinate with the local service team to further review and clarify your case. Thank you!

Hi @laptopabcd
This is the correct place, as it's related to service 👍

No, I want to speak with users, not with your staff. Why did you remove it from there? I came here for opinions, not troubleshooting. Plese put it back.

I thought so too. In that case I'll have to persuade them to replace the entire unit since it's still in warranty.
