Re: Rog strix g18 2023 Bios 329 update?

After Bios 329 update g814 laptop wont turn on. Nothing helps, holding power button for 40sec, unpluging power cable, it just completely blank, not even any light blinking.

Problems started a day ago after turn on LG monitor was blank, opened device manager and at the bottom there was problem with SMCI usb C driver, message said windows stopped driver (code 43). After restar it was the same. Opened windows update and installed some updates, nothing changed, opened windows optional updates, there was only one Bios update, downloaded and started. After automatic restart appeared BIOS update, i saw that last update was 2024/04, pushed enter on YES, update started, fan turned noisy, update finished and shuted dowm automaticaly, but that was it, nothing works. 16hours after the same.

Must admit that after pushase there was only 16gb ram, upgradeed extra 32gb, total 48gb, and inserted extra ssd 1tb, total 2tb. All upgrades worked just fine, even after upgrades was 1 time BIOS update 2024/04, whitch went with out any problems.

Anyone experienced similar problem? Any tips where to start? Or just give laptop to local warranty repair service?

If you still have the original stock RAM kit that came with the laptop. Use that and boot into the BIOS and make sure to disable undervolt from BIOS settings. After that re-insert your new RAM and let it take there own time to boot... and then undervolt normally.

Hopefully it's an RAM problem.

Did you set BIOS undervolt -80mV by chance before (or after) the BIOS update?

I know two choices to try resuming a laptop and access the BIOS in emergency:

  1. extract all the RAM banks and boot the laptop. This forces the PC to boot into the BIOS automatically. Try a BIOS reset to default (there's an option to re-apply default settings).
  2. there was an old trick for previous ASUS laptops worth trying: keep pressed RCTRL+HOME keyboard keys (the upper-left arrow symbol on the numpad) and press for 1-2 secs the ON/OFF power button. If/when boots up into the BIOS you can finally release RCTRL+HOME keys. This emergency procedure was to access BIOS re-flash software directly (you need a FAT-32 pendrive with the BIOS file.bin in the root)...

Thanks for the tips. At first i took out 32gb ram and tried several times to push or hold power button, but laptop did not responded. Then removed the original one 16gb ram, and again push or hold did not responded. Not even any light blinked. Decided to bring it to the warranty service.

I hope its not a original ssd C drive failure, i had made a half for D partition and stored there a lot of data. Laptop was always on desk without any moving, so hoping that it is anything else than ssd...

It's unlikely to be just a failed hard drive. When a hard drive fails, the computer will still turn on and show the logo, but it will give an error message like "Failed to find a boot device"  or "Operating System Not Present".

It seems like its either a hardware failure on the motherboard or power supply, preventing it from turning on Or it could be a failed bios update which totally borked the computer's ability to turn on.  Since you mentioned one of the USB C ports having a problem prior to the BIOS update, its possible something on the motherboard was going bad before you attempted the update.

At this point, best bet is to call customer service and let them talk you through trouble shooting steps to try to get it booted. They may know a trick of holding down certain buttons to get the laptop to respond.  If that fails, they will most likely suggest you bring the laptop in for servicing.  Your Data should still be perfectly intact on the SSD.  I would remove the SSD and connect it to a working computer via a NVME to USB adapter and backup all the data on the drives before sending them in.  Only send in the original drives and ram, keep the upgraded drives and ram because you never know if you'll get your upgraded components back.

best of luck
