Rattling some from ROG Zephyrus G14 only in games

Hi all,

I've bought a second hand ROG Zephyrus G14 (2022 - GA402RK).

I've noticed when playing games that is an odd rattling / electrical noise coming from the laptop. This sound ONLY happens when I'm playing any game. Taking Back 4 Blood as an example, there is not rattling / electrical noise until I get into the game itself and am in first person and moving around. Before that, this noise isn't there.

So far I have determined...

  1. It can't be the fans, because if I quit out of a game the noise immediately disappears.
  2. The noise is still there when plugged in or on battery, though it is slightly louder when plugged in.
  3. After time the noise can fade.

Is this coil whine? It's more a rattling or electrical noise, it's really difficult to describe.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

To give another example. When playing Diablo IV I can hear the rattling noise, the moment I quit out the game it's gone...

Hi @Ginjarou ,

Based on your description and without having seen the actual device, the noise you are hearing, similar to an electric current sound, is referred to as "Coil Whine."
When electronic devices such as laptops, tablets, phones, etc., are operational, sometimes a "beep" noise may be heard, and it is not originating from the speakers or fans. Coil whine is a type of high-pitched noise that may occur in the design of modern high-power computer products. It is not a hardware defect and does not adversely affect the device's functionality.
