'Q' Key Input Unreliable While Holding 'W'

I'm facing an odd keyboard issue on my ROG laptop (GA503RW). While gaming, I noticed that the 'Q' key doesn't reliably register when holding down the 'W' key—which is quite frustrating in fast-paced games.

To troubleshoot, I checked Device Manager, and under Keyboards, I found two 'HID Keyboard Devices' listed, even though I’m only using the built-in keyboard.

Interestingly, when I uninstall the HID Keyboard Device that has more recent event timestamps, the issue sometimes gets temporarily resolved. But after a system restart, that HID device reappears, and the issue returns.

My assumption is that a Windows update might have overridden the ROG-specific keyboard firmware with a generic driver, causing this conflict. I’ve searched for a dedicated keyboard firmware update tool, but couldn’t find anything in the official driver & tools page for my model, or within the MyASUS app.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of input conflict or driver override?
Is there a way to restore the original keyboard firmware or prevent Windows from forcing the generic driver?

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

You mentioned that uninstalling one of the HID Keyboard Devices sometimes temporarily resolves the issue. To further clarify if the HID Keyboard Devices are the cause of the problem, could you please try temporarily disabling one of them and test if the issue persists?

Additionally, could you please share the following information with us? This will help us understand the issue better. Thank you.

  • BIOS Version:
  • Windows Build Version: (Settings - System - About)
To speed up issue identification, please provide the product model, BIOS, and driver versions, along with the troubleshooting steps you've already tried to avoid redundant checks.

I realized that the 2nd HID Keyboard Device is my mouse with side buttons. As I mentioned earlier, uninstalling one of the HID Keyboard Devices only sometimes resolves the issue temporarily. I was just a coincidence.

'Q' button registering unreliably while 'W' is being pressed is still an issue (I just realized that the same issue is with 'Q' key while SHIFT key is being pressed. Just realized that while trying to type capital Q). The chances of it being an hardware issue is minimal as Q key is registering properly while typing normally, the issue comes only when another key like 'W' or SHIFT is being pressed. The occurrence of the issue is also unreliable. I have to try multiple times before Q key is registered while whole left SHIFT button. No other key seem to have the same issue.
