I bought a A17 FA707XI which came with the disgusting screen that had 62% SRGB and pixel response times of 2 business days making everything look washed out and fuzzy even at 144hz.
Being a technician level enthusiast, I checked what panels came as options for this unit.
See attached screenshot. The QHD panel in question is the BOE 17.3 NZ1. Which I managed to source a legitimate panel which is also meant to independently be Gsync certified BOE NE173QHM-NZ1 Overview - Panelook.com.
I have swapped said panel myself, the laptop immediately acknowledged it for what it is and offers 60hz or 240hz with overdrive as BOE and ASUS intended. Freesync though the 780m on the CPU works beautifully. Nvidia and Gsync? No bueno. I've checked all drivers, through device manager, uninstalled and reinstalled it, and all Nvidia software. Nothing.
I spoke directly to Nvidia and they blame ASUS, directly saying that they certify the specification an OEM is going to use. So shrugging off the fact that the panel itself should be Gsync certified. They then proceed to tell me that ASUS likely have a driver or firmware for the panel that they could push through and make it work. Basically, if ASUS alters any parameter of the screen by as much as 1khz on the pixel clock, Gsync is null and void. So you need ASUS firmware/drivers to get the screen to match the certified spec.
When speaking to an ASUS rep, all I got was spat on because I chose to spend £76 quid and a hour of my time instead of like £400 quid getting an "authorised service". They then proceeded to continually repeat that the stock panel is FHD only. Meaning either they are really stupid and do not know the offered specifications of the laptops they sell, or ASUS is doing a lot of false advertising. Then pretty much just saying I did the work, so they have no obligation to assist making the panel function properly. Which is downright disgusting. I bought your machine which was sub par, upgraded it to a spec I couldn't actually purchase in the UK, instead of actually being grateful and assisting the consumer get it working like I should be able to via your own specs... You treat me with contempt and disregard because YOU didn't get to rip me off?
Now, matterless to who did what work, we have the right to repair AND the right for it to work as intended. ASUS have used the NZ1/2 panels in a lot of units including the A17 and F17. Meaning if this is a driver level or firmware level issue to get this panel to work as it is intended to do, I kindly ask that the correct Driver/firmware be made available.

@Ragnaraz690
Hello, could you please provide me with your laptop's serial number so that we can verify the specifications?
I have sent you a message, and you can provide me with the serial number of your laptop through the message.
Thank you.

I have replied to the message.
I am aware my laptop came with a FHD screen, I am also aware it can come with a QHD screen, so there is no reason there can't be a solution to this problem aside ASUS being spiteful.
