I have just received my new E1404GA. I'm going to use it for testing software which I cannot trust.
Unfortunately, as far as I can workout, it is delivered with a non-removable UFS, and no M.2 slot.
The seller specified the storage as "128GB SDD" in the article's title, and in detailed specifications as "128 GB SSD - UFS 2.1", which is an exact copy of the label on the box.(Photo) I cannot blame him.
The ASUS-specifications suggests "Expansion Slots (includes used) 1x M.2 2280 PCIe 3.0x2 (SSD SKU only)", which obviously means the SSD option among the three options listed as "Storage".
I did expect a removable storage, and I did not care about it as I planned to replace it.
A) Where can I report this "typo"?
I strongly advice ASUS to change "SSD" on the box label to "Storage" as in the specifications.
B) How can I setup a work-around?
Can I deactivate the UFS in a way making it impossible for even the most advance malware to access the device?
Can I clear the UFS using a method guaranteeing all sectors resat? How many times can I do so before the device becomes very slow?
Can I add an USB4 port? (The current USB speed is only 5Gbps)
I have watched two disassembly videos and it seems like no PCIe slot is available.
Asus offers this upgrade: https://en.accessoires-asus.com/laptop/board/io-board/asus-vivobook-controller-board-62578-110230.ht...
C) The boards in the videos have space for an M.2 on the mainboard. Can I just solder an M.2 adapter?
Asus offers this part to be soldered:
https://en.accessoires-asus.com/laptop/dc-power/sata-plug/asus-sata-m2-connector-65405-68014.htm#e14...
D) How can I find spare part numbers for a replacement mainboard featuring an M.2 adapter?
Based on what I paid for the PC I expect them to be very affordable.
I have tried
https://partshop.asus.com/us/search/advanced/
https://en.accessoires-asus.com/
https://en.accessoires-asus.com/laptop/motherboard/
but I only find exactly the board missing an M.2.
I think this problem is general: You cannot find upgrade parts like e.g. an 14" OLED display for replacing a 14" IPS display.
I.E. you cannot search for compatible parts.
If I am wrong, then please show me how to do that.
