My dedicated graphics card is not showing up on my ROG laptop

Laptop: ASUS ROG Strix G513QY
Card: AMD Radeon RX 6800M

I suppose this issue started about 8 months ago when I updated the AMD Adrenalin software/drivers, but I don't play games often on here, so I cannot pinpoint exactly when this happened. I recently installed Helldivers and was getting just 4FPS and could barely even move my mouse because it was extremely laggy, that's what hinted at there being an issue.

When I look in dxdiag and go to display, it just shows "AMD Radeon(TM) graphics)". Armoury crate just says Extreme Power Saving for the GPU and gives me no option to switch to dedicated or control the GPU at all. I did some research and people said it is because Armoury crate is in eco mode, but there is no such option for me.

Same thing with AMD Adrenalin software, it doesn't show the external GPU at all.

I uninstalled both of these, and no change. Installed them again, also no change. The BIOS is up to date, windows update is up to date. I did a CMOS reset and also set BIOS to default settings, no change.

I tried downloading a specific version of the AMD Software Adrenalin Edition, making sure to specifically choose the RX 6800M. The minimal installer installed but didn't change anything. The bulk/offline installer extracts the files and then tells me "Error 182 - AMD Software Installer detected AMD graphics hardware in your system configuration that is not supported." and refuses to go any further.

I'm not sure what else to try.

Has anyone else had this issue, and how did they resolve it? It seems super odd that my dedicated graphics card would just disappear like this.

We recommend checking the graphics card status in Device Manager.
Does it only show “AMD Radeon Graphics”? Does it show “RX 6800M”?
If there is an error code (such as Code 43) or a yellow exclamation mark, it indicates a hardware driver issue.
We suggest uninstalling the graphics card and then installing the driver provided on our website to check.
If only the iGPU is detected, it means the discrete GPU cannot be detected at all. In this case, we recommend bringing your laptop to a service center for further inspection.

Also you can contact the local service center for help.

Hello,

Device manager only shows "AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics" and no mention of the RX 6800M anywhere.

I feel like this issue most likely started when I updated the Adrenalin software many months ago, but I didn't pick up on it until recently. I did notice some laptop lag even when watching Twitch which I thought was odd, but I didn't understand what happened until I tried to play a game.

As mentioned earlier, I cannot install any of the older working versions of Adrenalin otherwise I get error 182.

-Have you had any other reports of this issue and could you advise what the root cause of the issue was?

-Is the only solution to bring this to a service centre?

We recommend that you refer to the FAQ below to uninstall the graphics device from Device Manager. After that, please download and reinstall the driver from our official website to confirm if the issue is resolved.
[Windows 11/10] Troubleshooting - Failure to Detect Graphics Card

If the problem persists, you may consider backing up your data and restoring the system for further verification, or sending your laptop to a service center for further inspection. Sorry for any inconvenience it may be caused.

Hi,

I tried that previously and it didn't work.

To further troubleshoot, I completely reinstalled Windows 11. I ran a windows update and made sure it was fully up to date and then rebooted.

I then downloaded AMD software adrenalin edition and now I am getting "Error 195 - AMD Installer cannot continue because it is unable to access the required web resources".

To rule out a local connection issue, I connect my laptop to my mobile hotspot but still got the same issue.

EDIT: I also tried the offline version and once again I got the 182 error. I am downloading the binaries from here https://www.amd.com/en/support/downloads/drivers.html/graphics/radeon-rx/radeon-rx-6000-series/amd-r...

Since your original issue seems to be that the graphics card could not be detected, may I ask after restoring the system, does the graphics card appear in Device Manager without any error messages?
Is your current problem that you receive an error when installing AMD Software Adrenalin Edition? If possible, could you provide a screenshot of the error for our reference?

To help us process your case more efficiently, please also provide your laptop’s current BIOS version, system version, and OS build version. Sorry for any inconvenience it may be caused.
