MUX / Advanced Optimus not switching correctly on Zephyrus G14 (GA403WR)

Hi,

I have a ROG Zephyrus G14 (GA403WR, AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 + RTX 5070 TI), and I’ve been having issues with the GPU mode switching behavior lately.

Previously, when I switched between Eco mode (iGPU only) and Standard mode (iGPU + dGPU), Windows would:

  • Briefly play the USB “disconnect/reconnect” sound.

  • The screen would freeze for about 2 seconds, and then the display output would move to the NVIDIA GPU.

Now, that doesn’t happen anymore. In Standard mode, the laptop stays permanently on the iGPU output, the display remains routed through the integrated Radeon 890M, even though games still use the NVIDIA GPU for rendering. I don't hear the USB disconnect/reconnect sound anymore either when switching the GPU modes (iGPU only and iGPU + dGPU).

Additionally:

  • The GPU fans start spinning after 50 degrees celsius in eco mode together with the CPU (even though the GPU is turned off in this mode), which didn't happen before this issue, only the CPU fans would spin in eco mode.

  • In Ultimate mode, the display does correctly switch to the dGPU after a restart, so no problems there.
  • In Windows Display Settings, I used to see two display entries (one for iGPU and one for dGPU). Now, only the iGPU one (ATNA40CU05-0) appears in Standard mode; the dGPU one (ASUS_GA403WR_1002_...) only appears in Ultimate mode.

I deleted G-helper and reinstalled armoury crate to see if the issue was with G-helper, but the same problem persisted in armoury crate also. I really don't know what caused this issue since I haven't updated the BIOS, Windows, or G-helper in the meantime (at least not consciously).

The real problem for me is that the GPU fans also start spinning in eco mode, which makes the device louder for no reason. I suspect this has to do something with Windows not playing the USB disconnect/reconnect sound when switching the GPU modes (maybe the GPU isn't being fully deactivated like it used to in eco mode, but I don't know).

Also, I've tried this both in optimus mode and auto select mode in NVIDIA Contol Panel, but nothing changed.

Thanks in advance.

Since you have previously installed and removed GHelper, this third-party software may have modified system parameters. Even after reinstalling Armoury Crate, the related parameters might not have returned to normal.
We recommend backing up your data and then performing a system restore. After restoring the system, use only the drivers provided on the official ASUS website and Armoury Crate, and do not install GHelper or other third-party software. Then, try switching the GPU mode in Armoury Crate to see if normal switching behavior is restored.
[Windows 11/10] How to Reset (Reinstall) the Operating System

Sorry for any inconvenience it may be caused.

I did a full reinstall of Windows 11 and downloaded the graphics driver on the official Rog Asus website for my model and then downloaded armoury crate. However, the issue hasn't gone away. When I did a reinstall, though, it wasn't like when I set up Windows for the first time where Windows showed me a bunch of driver updates in the Windows Update settings. I think it might be a BIOS issue, but idk.

If the issue persists, we recommend sending the device in for inspection, as it may require reprogramming the EC firmware or a motherboard check.
