Hi everyone,
I have enquiries about my gaming laptop issues which mysteriously cannot be solved even after I went to the ASUS service centre. The laptop is a G614JJ Rog Strix G16 2023 model.
To start with, it is not my main device and I only use it occasionally when I’m home. At least once a month it will turn on and only then do I use it for flight simulator gaming and web browsing. I've noticed the problems occur beforehand, and it seems to be fixed when I charge it via PD. But now this method is no longer working. I need to jumpstart the laptop until the keyboard RGB light is on and I can disconnect the charger afterward. Surprisingly, the battery life is still full and is working around 5 hours like normal.
I asked ChatGPT, referred to YouTube before going to the ASUS service, and none of them seem resolved even after using the PD like before.
Power Button RTC hard reset: ❌
Battery calibration 0-100: ❌
Fast Startup off: ❌
BIOS restore default: ❌
It is so frustrating because I need to carry my power bank just to jumpstart and use the laptop after every time.
When I went to ASUS, they also didn’t know the issue and suggested replacing the battery and the motherboard, which cost almost the same if I were to buy them, but the new version is the 2025 ROG Strix G16. I am refusing as I can count in a year how much times I use the device.
Do not hesitate for further enquiries and I can share more about the matter. It would mean a world for me, some sharing from your perspective. Thanks!

@haziqbaek
Based on your description, it is possible that the issue is caused by a motherboard malfunction.
If you would like to troubleshoot from the software side first, we recommend backing up your data and then restoring the system to see if the issue persists.

Thank you for your suggestion.
I have recently attempted to reset all data using the method you recommended. I have meticulously followed the step-by-step guides provided. Regrettably, the issues remain unresolved. I have attached a video demonstrating the current state of affairs for your reference.

We regret to inform you that if you have already tried system restoration but the issue still persists, based on the video you provided, it is possible that a component on the motherboard is malfunctioning.
Since we are unable to confirm the actual condition of the device remotely, we recommend that you bring your laptop to a service center for further inspection.

I have last inquiries that I've gained from various reliable sources. And I've come to understand that the device powers on with only AC, which means the EC embedded for RTC is working fine. And working normal 5 hours battery life does not always translate to it being a good battery in the event it degrades over time.
In my current situation, I've tried:
1. AC only power on ✅
2. Battery only❌ (cannot on)
3. AC + Battery✅
From the battery health [ powercfg /batteryreport ] cmd, it stated:
Design Capacity: 63,999mWh
Full Charge Capacity: 50,816mWh
Battery counts: -
79.4% health, I’m thinking that the battery cannot deliver sufficient power to power-up all components in the device. Moreover, my current situation when the power button is pressed - the device is on with the keyboard lit up and after a while the power cuts off and cannot turn on after. It needs to be plugged in again as you refer to from previous threads. In my perspective, the battery may be able to hold a charge but fails to deliver stable power during boot.
As Asus Service Centre gives options to either repair the motherboard and battery, I'm thinking to replace just the battery at ASUS. What are your perspectives on these insights? Thank you, and have a nice day.

Yes, but since repair centers usually use part swapping for testing, if the issue still persists after replacing the battery, then it is likely that a motherboard replacement cross-test will be needed.

Hello @Falcon2_ROG
Here is an update after 2 weeks, I am about to went to asus to change battery and upgrade my SSD. But before upgrading the SSD i turn off the Device encryption in settings. Surprisingly, my laptop can be turn on without the AC power! I am quite confuse why the encryption bother the battery much because i turn it on again to see what occurs, and the device cannot be turn on via battery after. So i just turn it off for temporarily solution before go to Asus.
After all, i'm quite happy as the device has been working for 2 days without any AC power to power it on. below is my battery report.
Thank you for your time and insight! have a nice day.
