I recently found out that ASUS voided my warranty after I had to replace their liquid metal (LM) application issues. On top of that, there’s now a significant coil whine when using the laptop on battery. I’ve tried reinstalling Windows and adjusting power settings, but nothing has worked. The laptop is unusable for 3D work in its current state.

Honestly, I’m at a loss with ASUS support at this point. Their response has been incredibly frustrating.

I’ll try to record another video, as the current one downscales the sound. The noise is exactly what I hear every time I try to work in peace, and it’s really disrupting my workflow.

This is what ASUS sold me. I paid 3000 EUR for this laptop. Do you see those black spots? Those are burned spots from a bad liquid metal application. They will claim that the warranty is voided if you replace the liquid metal and remove the sticker, but that’s not true.

So, you know how I replaced the thermal paste on my laptop with liquid metal and removed the warranty sticker? I was worried that ASUS might try to void my warranty, but luckily, since we're in the EU, they can't really do that just because I opened up the device.

Here's why:

  1. EU Consumer Laws Have Our Back: In the EU, there's a law called EU Directive 2019/771, which protects consumers like us. It says that manufacturers (like ASUS) are required to repair or replace defective products unless they can prove that the problem was caused by something we did—like improper disassembly or damage during repairs. But since replacing thermal paste or liquid metal is a common maintenance task and hasn't caused any issues, they can't just void the warranty for that.

  2. Warranty Stickers Aren't a Dealbreaker in the EU: Even though ASUS might slap a sticker on the device that says "warranty void if removed," that doesn't really hold up here. In the EU, manufacturers aren't allowed to void a warranty just because you opened the device. The key thing is whether your action caused any damage. So, as long as everything is fine and the problem I’m reporting (like screen issues or coil whine) has nothing to do with me opening the laptop, ASUS can't refuse to fix it.

  3. Proof is on Them: ASUS would need to prove that something I did—like applying the liquid metal or opening the laptop—actually caused the issue. If the problem has nothing to do with what I touched, they're still responsible for fixing it under the warranty.

In short, as long as I didn’t break anything while replacing the thermal paste, ASUS can't void my warranty just because I opened the laptop or removed that sticker. EU laws are pretty solid when it comes to protecting us as consumers!

It's coil whine not the "fans". Is this acceptable for a 3000 £ laptop? Let me know!

Based on your video, the buzzing sound seems to stop randomly and is triggered after pressing certain keys (at the 0.24-second mark), which doesn’t appear to be typical of coil whine . Does the buzzing sound occur only in specific games, or does it also happen when the system is idle? In what mode is the GPU set when the issue occurs? Please let us know the games where this issue happens and provide the SN and RMA number. We will forward this information to the local service team for further investigation. Thank you.

I've been experiencing a buzzing noise that occurs when I alt-tab out of a game to make it stop, but as soon as I tab back in, the buzzing resumes. This happens in all games and 3D work. The issue persists in both Standard and Turbo modes but not in ECO mode, where the GPU is likely disabled or not drawing enough power.

I’ve attached another video for reference, showing that the noise occurs even when there's no load. I’ve also tried changing power modes, and it’s definitely not caused by a stuck fan, as the fans are clean. The noise seems to be coming from the GPU/CPU area.

I already sent you the RMA and SN. You already seen above that RMA says no problems found. 😡
