Hi everyone,
Looking for some advice. I purchased my ROG Strix SCAR 16 (G634JY) directly from ASUS in September 2024. I was trying to future-proof myself, but honestly, I think I bit off more than I could chew at the time. I shelved it out of frustration early on and only recently started using it again.
Specs:
Model: G634JY (2024 SCAR 16)
CPU: Intel Core i9
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU (175 W TGP)
RAM: 32 GB DDR5
OS: Windows 11 Pro
Display: QHD Mini‑LED 240 Hz
The issue:
Even with an IETS GT300 cooling pad, temps frequently hit 80°C to 90°C while gaming. I mostly play Starfield, Fallout, and BO6, so I understand they’re demanding titles — but this still seems excessive for a machine of this caliber.
Unfortunately, I haven’t had much luck finding real-time support—just a lot of self-serve tools and AI help articles. I’m doing my best to figure things out but feeling stuck.
My questions:
Are these temps normal for this laptop under gaming load?
Would undervolting, repasting, or tweaking fan curves in Armoury Crate (which is a whole new level of hairpulling haha) help bring them down?
Is there anything else I should check or change in BIOS or software?
Any help from others with this model (or ASUS reps) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi @KATAWHUMPUS
I'm assuming those temps are for both the CPU and GPU?
The 13980HX and 14th gen counterparts do run fairly hot, often up to 100C. The 4090M, upward of 80C isn't uncommon depending on ambient conditions.
I've moved the thread to ROG Care as this is the section often monitored by service staff.
