GL764GW : Display stays dark, no way to enter EUEFI Bios

Hi Folks,

the Display went into dark during work, no malfunction before. The monitor on displayport works still well.

Disabling / deinstalling the graphics adapter in the device manager has not solve the problem. NVIDIA driver update hasn't help also.

I've read that to check the internal display I have to enter the UEFI BIOS and check the settings. But there's no way to enter the BIOS.

Laptop: GL764GW , RTX2070

F2 before pressing the start button leads to normal start and WIN10 logon screen.

Advanced startup under WIN10 and choosing "Troubleshoot / Advanced Options / UEFI Firmware Settings" leads also to normal start and WIN10 logon screen.

Advanced startup under WIN10 and choosing "Troubleshoot / Advanced Options / System Restore" leads to dark screen at the external monitor, no processor or HDD actions.

Has anyone an Idea?

I don't know if I can solve the problem by replacing the display (available for ca. 80-100€), maybe the graphics adapter has an error. But how to check the RTX2070 or the Intel internal graphics?

Thanks in advance
Mike

Hi @mike_1964 ,

Please refer to the instructions in this link and try entering the BIOS to see if it displays correctly on the main screen. If the BIOS interface does not appear on the main screen, we recommend that you send the laptop to your local service team for further hardware diagnostics. Thank you.

Hi @Anbby_ROG ,

I've tried this instructions before I placed my posting here. But as mentioned, no way to enter the UEFI BIOS, because the WIN10 logon screen is always present after starting the laptop. It doesn't matter which way / option I choose.

Hi @mike_1964 ,

Thank you for your reply. Based on your description and the tests you have conducted, we recommend that you send the laptop to your local service center for further hardware diagnostics to identify the issue. Thank you.

Hi @Anbby_ROG ,

I've ordered a new display and replaced it today. And it works. It was a 30/30/30 chance (display, cable, graphics adapter), but sometimes you need a bit luck.

Thanks and greetings
Mike
