G634JZ – Keyboard and RGB Lights Not Working | Power Button OK | No Fix After Full Resets

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing a serious issue on my ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 (G634JZ, 2023 model).

The keyboard has completely stopped working — no key input, no RGB backlighting, no response from the front and rear LED bars, and the ROG logo light is also off. The only part that still works is the power button, which is part of the keyboard module.

This is what I’ve tried so far:

  • BIOS updated to the latest version
  • Full factory reset of Windows
  • EC (Embedded Controller) reset (battery removed, 60s power button press)
  • Full battery drain and cold boot
  • Reconnected all internal cables (Lite Per Key, Logo Lite, L/R LED Bars, Indicator)
  • Tested minimal setups and booted with/without keyboard connected
  • Verified that external USB keyboard works fine

The issue appeared once, resolved itself for a few days, and then came back permanently. No software or driver fixes helped. From what I can tell — and after deep inspection — this seems to be a hardware-level issue either in the keyboard module itself or the embedded controller on the motherboard.

This device cost me over $3,500 and is just around 3 years old with very light use. A total failure of keyboard and lighting functions is simply unacceptable at this level. I’ve seen others here report similar cases — which suggests this could be a recurring hardware defect.

I’m sharing my case in detail in case it helps others, and I would really appreciate feedback or escalation from ASUS on this.
