G18 (2023) G814JI - i9 13980HX Severe System Instability and Crashes!!!! *PROBLEM SOLVED, CHECK FIX

I've had this laptop since September 2023. It's been great in many tasks and under heavy loads until i began experiencing crashes or BSODs around August-September this year. Later on to this day, i've been unable to play a game or have a Chrome page open for 1-2 hours straight without any crash happening for the last 2 weeks. I get IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL code in my BSODs, i get STATUS VIOLATION ERRORs in Google Chrome, Exception codes: 0xc0000005, 0x80000003 and 0xc0000409... I'm sick of crashing in games, i'm sick of seeing ''Aw, snap!'' errors in Chrome pages, i'm sick of system crashing and leaving me with a Blue screen of death.

I've done many tests and research to fix this, nothing solved it. Deleting Armoury Crate and MyASUS did relief my system 2x maybe even more but i'm still suffering from crashes. I've switched to G Helper a few days ago and disabling CPU Turbo Boost almost solves the issue completely but i'm not sure about that yet.

My hardware passes tests nicely but i couldn't test them for long times and this short timed tests shouldn't be taken for granted. I've tried updating almost every driver i have but no luck so far. I need help please, thank you.

EDIT: I had edited my post a lot and took important parts out due to not being confident in my claims but i'm adding them back. I'm definitely affected by the Intel 13th-14th CPU Degradation problem of this summer, my G18 uses i9-13980HX and there are reports of it being affected by many users. Out of nowhere instability issues that worsen over time should be a great indicator on this issue and a good evidence for it when everything else fails to solve it + disabling CPU boost makes a huge difference. As of December, Intel has yet to admit that their Laptop/Mobile CPUs are also affected by their problem. Since they still didn't do this, i won't be able to ask for an RMA either. Thanks, that's great news. Paying a fortune on a laptop that i thought i would be using it for at least 5+ years and in light/heavy tasks with no issues was the biggest mistake that i can't even keep Chrome pages open!!!! AWESOME!

!!!!!!! FIX: I COULD FINALLY SOLVE THE INSTABILITY AND CRASH ISSUES!!!!! - DO EVERY TROUBLESHOOTING FIRST-
What you should do is reduce your P-Core multiplier from tools like Intel XTU (i'm using that one) by a few points, for example in my situation i'm using 49x and perfectly stable and the default for my CPU is 52x. I didn't touch E-Core multiplier, i added an undervolt of -0,085V for better performance while underclocked (but seriously you should always undervolt in my opinion, i was avoiding it for keeping my warranty, a dumb excuse on my side, but who cares it's not damaging your hardware like overclocking.).

I don't remember my stock settings benchmark results but I'm getting above 10.000 marks on XTU benchmark with these settings for myself which is quite fine for me. I can finally use my machine somewhat close to it's stock performance without any crashes. It's been a fight for a whole month but i finally did it, won over those stupid crashes! I'm so relieved and can finally be in peace even if it's a temporary fix for now. I'll be sharing this as much as i can. (Note that Marvel Rivals is also suggesting this method for their players who are using Intel 13th-14th desktop CPUs and it's the same way of solving these issues. I'm not playing that game but came across their post recently after fixing my issues, it's a very good backup to my claims as a laptop CPU user, on paper).

I'm going to use my device for a few other weeks because i need it but after that, i'm definitely going to send my device to ASUS service and request an RMA right away, i don't know how the process will be like but i have a lot of evidence in my hands by now (same error codes, messages, symptoms, scenarios and even fix as desktop CPUs) and they have to allow an RMA at this point, it can't work on stock CPU clocks!! HX using the same architecture with it's desktop counterparts are also a huge evidence that this series could very well be vulnerable to excessive voltage/degradation issue (but still, we need and have yet to see more reports coming in for this claim). I saw a few user reports around, let this be another addition to that. I still have my warranty for another 9 months but for those who don't, i hope you'll also see an extended warranty as desktop ones did and be able to replace your processor with a new one.

Note: You don't need any software such as Intel XTU or Throttlestop etc if you don't feel confident with them. you can also set your maximum frequency value from Windows, power plan settings. But you'll need to change a registry key to make it visible so the risk is yours and you have to be cautious with that. You can search for ''Maximum Processor Frequency''.

I hope this one saves you a lot of trouble until you can get your hardware replaced with a new and good one. Cheers 🙂

If your laptop is still under warranty, we recommend that you send it to the local service center for further hardware diagnostics to confirm the actual issue. Thank you.

To speed up issue identification, please provide the product model, BIOS, and driver versions, along with the troubleshooting steps you've already tried to avoid redundant checks.

⚠️ DM are for collecting personal information only. For technical assistance, please post your issue in the discussion thread so everyone can help and share insights! Thank you for your understanding! 🙂

I still have my warranty until September 2025, although i'm in Turkey and i don't trust any service here from delivery to ASUS' authorized services, i heard a lot of horrible stories and experiences about it and i don't want to risk any damage from this process. Also it isn't unheard of the services here not caring & sending the device back without proper investigation here, i've done my research since they don't have a service available in my city but i would like to trust my own observations instead of others' comments, it's unfortunately not available for me and the frequency of negative comments is worrisome.

I'm still investigating the problems in my system, i will make an update post in my profile later. To those come to this thread for a similar problem, check my profile out if i have a new post.

Thanks Anbby, have a nice one.

If you tried the fix perhaps it could work in stabilizing your rig, a lot of what you're saying sounds like the crashes others and myself were experiencing. Enabling the features I have in my fix are all Windows features that Microsoft has hidden, all you're doing is simply revealing them for use which provides optimal optimization of power settings that nullifies the crashes you've been experiencing. Give it a try and you may be surprised at how well it works. If under warranty I'd send it in for service just to see but if It's most likely not a hardware issue and if the service center is unable to fix the issue, they might just replace the whole rig but later down the line you'll face the same issue no matter the rig. This is because it's not actually a hardware issue but again a software issue with Microsoft Windows, that is why Intel and Asus were unable to provide a fix because while they were searching on their end for their products of any defects and would always find none.

The fix I found took me months of researching and testing between two different rigs to properly replicate the success I have had, I have had a few BSODs but mostly I would get freezing like you've experienced or a complete black screen and then the odd time was a BSOD but if the issues persist after service or if you're out of warranty I would highly recommend giving my fix a try, it takes no longer than 20 minutes and can solve your problems for a life time!

I'm looking into possible causes and solutions even though it doesn't look like luck is on my side. I will try to update you if i try the thing you mentioned and see if it solves it or not. Thanks for the suggestion regardless Luciifer, have a nice day.

If you happen to be on Windows 11 I'd recommend reverting to Windows 10 because some folk have tried to replicate the fix on Windows 11 without success, I can confirm across two systems that there is zero crashes for 7 months and 2 weeks respectively now. P.s. you're welcome.

I don't think it's a problem with Windows 11, my friend also has the exact same laptop with me and he hasn't been doing heavy gaming like i do, his laptop began to give BSODs out of nowhere and on very light tasks such as opening a Word document or a PDF etc. I've sent another mail to ASUS let's see how it goes lol.

Edit: His crashes aren't frequent like mine, for now. I'm sure he's on the same track with me and going to experience what i'm doing in the upcoming months, maybe around late spring. It's like degradation is also on 13980HX but they experience it slower than desktop cpus.

I also experienced crashes on minor apps such as Youtube and weak games that wre not power consuming in the slightest, sometimes my computer would just be idle and it would crash or freeze with literally zero apps running. Now everything is running buttery smooth.

No unfortunately the 2 problems look very different from each other, from error codes to symptoms excluding crash issues which is a result of very wide range of issues.

I'll be able to solve my issue with a RMA if Asus agrees to it. I can use my computer and do anything with disabling CPU Boost, i've yet to see a single (unexpected) crash or BSOD by doing this but on the other hand, the moment i enable this boost everything gets in a line to crash in the next 5 minutes. And no it's not a thermal throttle problem since this even happens with 45*C on CPU and just in Chrome or even File Explorer and things like that. The error codes, symptoms and everything in hand shows that this is an instability issue and very likely related to the one crashed/degraded desktop 13th-14th gen Intel CPUs.

I'm going to send my device for service and hope for the best. I've done all i can, the rest is on ASUS.

for me, i had lots of issues like that, i migrated to Linux and the sysrtem system stable enough.

Now i went back to a clean install of windows and the system also feels stable too.

Interesting. Maybe your instability issues with Windows had something to do with 24H2 updates? They've been problematic for some people. Although my issue feels like about CPU, i couldn't even install Windows 11 with a flash drive last time, it kept giving errors. I also couldn't do any windows updates before, my system integrity looked good but these problems never solved. Now i have no pending Windows updates and could receive a few other minor updates but it's a matter of time until i'm unable to do a major update about Windows again. I don't know it's very odd.

People report being unable to install drivers etc. because they fail during the process, i wonder if mine is also going that way. Desktop CPUs saw instant degradation like just in a few months but mine feels like on a slower scale, spread throughout the months. First i had CPU intensive games crash unexpectedly and out of place, Unreal Engine games crashing while booting or crashing rarely and now it's full on scale crash and instability everywhere. I wonder what's the next stage going to be like.
