G15 AE Intermittent black screen issues

So I have a ROG Strix G15 AE with the 6800M GPU and 300hz screen. As of the last few days sometimes when I boot it up from hibernation (not sleep) it boots to a black screen (no logo, no nothing). Weirdly I can get the screen to come back on when I tilt the lid forward a little, but then it'll shut off (and display weird artifacts sometimes) if I tilt it back again.

The especially weird thing is that when I unplug the charger this problem seems to go away, it boots like normal and the display remains on no matter where I tilt the lid.

After another reboot or two the problem goes away entirely and the computer functions as normal. The problem has only occurred when starting cold from hibernation.

Wondering what could be going on here? Is it software related? Do I need to roll back my BIOS or something? I haven't updated anything recently to my knowledge, but I'm going to try an overdue Windows update tonight. I'm on Windows 10 64bit.

your issue sounds like your screen has gone bust as well(this is how my flickering started)
try going to the asus service center and get it replaced if you are still under warranty.

Shoot. Well I'm outside of warranty. Is there any hope of replacing it myself? Or how much would the repair cost?

Thanks for your help.

you can look for a replacement screen for your model on e-commerce websites
they usually cost around 50-100 euros

Hi @dbx3bx ,

I would like to confirm if you have updated the BIOS to the latest version 331 and tested using the ASUS-validated AMD graphics driver version V27.20.22001.24003
If you have already checked these and the issue persists, based on your description, we recommend sending the laptop to a local service center for further hardware diagnostics. Thank you.

Thanks for your reply. I am on BIOS 331 and I installed the driver version you provided. Unfortunately as of today the issue is worse, it took maybe 9-10 reboot attempts today, unplugging and plugging in the charger, holding down the power button over and over, until it finally came back on properly. Sometimes the screen does turn on but with a really laggy display that flickers on and off when I tilt it back and forth.
