G14 GA401IV (2020) no longer boots after amateurish fan change

Hello,

Currently have Asus G14 GA401IV https://rog.asus.com/laptops/rog-zephyrus/rog-zephyrus-g14-series/spec/

Followed fan replacement tutorials as carefully as I could but probably did a poor job. The pasting itself should be fine but I may have nuked the motherboard when clumsily disassembling and reassembling the various components. IIRC it was arctic MX-4 which I'll check when I get home.

  • The computer no longer boots. When I power it on (either with charger or internal battery plugged in), the keyboard backlight lights up briefly, the fans start at high settings and then calm down and remain stable.
  • The new fans are not the issue AFAIK. They work when plugged in, and there is no missing fan beep (or any other beep) when unplugged. Ironically, I went from a functional computer with dying fans to a dying computer with functional fans 😄
  • The orange charging light remains stable, then starts blinking when on AC with unplugged battery. AFAIK it remains stable with the battery plugged in. I can redo some tests. No activity on either indicator to the left and right of the battery light.
  • Screen remains dark no matter what
  • External monitor detects presence of HDMI current when connected but no signal. I don't think the problem is with the edp because this does not change with the edp unplugged.
  • I've tried the CMOS refresh technique (pressing for 60 seconds after removing all power sources), the EZ flash USB in FAT32 for my specific model, no luck so far or any light on the screen. Tried Ctrl+R, F2, F7, Enter, etc.
  • SSD and removable RAM are both removed to avoid problems
  • Left the computer on for a bit in various configs to see if it was 'RAM training' or whatever. No change. Even left it on overnight
  • A modest amount of heat is generated somewhere in the pasted area and dissipated by the cooling bars and fans. Not sure if the heat signature is normal.
  • Beyond the fact that the fans' bearings were about to die, the G14 used to work perfectly.

I want to 100% confirm that the motherboard is indeed KIA and try everything I can before bringing it to a shop. Warranty is loooong expired. Thanks for reading.

EDIT: also worth mentioning that there were no sparks or burning smells or any visible damage during install, with the exception of the cooling figure eight thingy which ended up slightly bent (1-2 degrees) on the left side housing the fan.
