Freezing upon starting my laptop with AMD Ryzen 5900HX

20231119_123504.jpgGood morning,

I have recently encountered an issue with my Asus Rog Strix 15 laptop, equipped with an AMD Ryzen 5900HX processor and an RTX 3070 graphics card (model g513qr). For the past few days, I've been experiencing freezes upon booting up the laptop, specifically when the Asus logo appears. At this point, I am only able to access the BIOS, unable to perform any other actions.

My laptop is currently running BIOS version 331, and despite my attempts to resolve the issue through resets, formatting, RAM and SSD changes, and even attempting to install BIOS version 330, the problem persists, resulting in frequent freezes.

It's crucial to note that the warranty for my laptop expired in August, limiting the available options for repair. Given that this laptop was a substantial $2000 investment in 2021, I am deeply concerned that it may become an expensive paperweight.

As a burgeoning content creator, the situation becomes even more critical as this laptop is essential for my work. In my quest for solutions, I turn to the community in the hope of gaining guidance on possible fixes or suggestions to address this problem. I do not wish to assume that both Asus and AMD have betrayed my trust, but the growing frustration leads me to consider this possibility. If confirmed, I will not hesitate to share my experience to dissuade other users from considering this brand in the future.

I appreciate any advice or assistance you can provide on this matter. I am genuinely worn out by this situation and hope to find a solution to once again enjoy my investment.

Thank you.

PD: I tried to disable the TPM. Since I couldn't do it directly on the laptop, I used a new SSD in another laptop, installed Windows, and disabled the TPM through System32. I then placed that SSD back into the ROG Strix G513, and it worked; the laptop booted up, and I reached the desktop. However, this success was short-lived, as it froze again after just 5 minutes. Therefore, the solution did not prove effective. Furthermore, after turning it off and on again, it continued freezing at the Asus logo.

I'm just tired... and disappointed.

First thing to is check your ram then your ssd  as mine did the same thing and it was my ram that had failed.

Next thing I suggest is to check the drivers bios

Hello CVN,

I have checked both the original RAM and SSD that came with the device, replaced them with new ones, and reset everything, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to resolve the issue. The laptop continues to freeze on the Asus logo. On some occasions, it manages to progress a bit further and reaches the Windows installation setup. However, upon reaching the step where it requests the input of the email address, it freezes again, creating a repetitive cycle.

Furthermore, I've updated the BIOS to the latest available version, but the problem persists. The only hope I have is that someone from Asus releases a "demo" version of the BIOS (addressing an issue with TPM) that I've read about on other forums, which might help solve the problem. Alternatively, they could release a new version of the BIOS; the current version is 331 (dated 2023/03/30).

How long before it freezes up on you is it 3 minutes after start up? or do you have time to jump onto a game you have in your system?

because mine would freeze 3 mins after start up, but sometimes if I loaded a game the laptop worked with zero issues, but as soon as I stopped the game it would freeze up.  I'm currently in the process of upgrading my ssd's and ram.

I did find out that one of the 16GB ram has gone bad.

Regarding the time issue, it occurs randomly—sometimes freezing when the Asus startup logo appears and at other times during specific steps of the Windows installation process. I have been unable to reach the desktop because, as it freezes and requires a restart, I must repeat the Windows installation steps (if it doesn't freeze at the startup logo) until encountering another freeze. Consequently, I have no opportunity to perform any tasks as it consistently freezes before reaching the Windows desktop.

Based on your previous advice, I revisited the SSD and RAM, replacing them with new ones, yet the issue persists. Reverting to the old components yielded the same freezing result. I believe I have exhausted all available options. At this point, the only potential solution I see is a BIOS update.

If you can get into safe mode and it doesn't freeze up then it's an issues with a recent program you may have installed.

Unfortunately, when trying in safe mode, it also freezes on me. I really don't know what to do; I have a $2000 paperweight.

Hi @Feren ,

I'm sorry to hear about the issues you're experiencing. Based on the information you've provided and the tests conducted, we recommend that you bring your laptop to the authorized service center in your local area for further hardware diagnostics to pinpoint the source of the problem. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and appreciate your understanding.

Due to the ongoing regional holidays, my responses may be slightly delayed.
Thank you in advance for your patience.‌‌‌‌

Hello Anbby,

I am contemplating sending my device to Asus technical support in my country, but it's truly the last option I want to explore. Although I feel that the only real solution to fix the problem would be the release of a new BIOS version, do you know if this will happen soon?

Hi @Feren ,

Due to the release of BIOS updates primarily aimed at optimizing errors on the system, based on the information you provided and relevant tests, I'm concerned that this may not be a problem that BIOS updates can resolve. We still recommend that you perform further hardware diagnostics.

Thank you for your understanding.
