Doom Eternal and Doom 2016 (Id Tech Engine) Issue with ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2023), found temp solution

Having issues running Doom Eternal and Doom 2016 (Id Tech Engine) specifically with my ROG Strix SCAR 16 (2023). When running Doom Eternal, for example, in the "Ultimate" GPU mode, where only the discrete GPU is enabled, the frame rate will be in the mid 30s.

I'm on the latest firmware (329), latest drivers, latest Windows Updates, so no issues there. Also disabled a lot of software I would usually run while testing for this issue, but that made no difference.

Then I switched "Standard" GPU mode, where the integrated and discrete graphics are both enabled, and Doom Eternal was playable again. Enabling HDR in Doom Eternal was not possible in this mode, but at least the frame rate was around 120FPS at 1440p on my external display.

Then I switched to "Optimized" GPU mode, where both GPUs are still enabled, and the performance was even better than what I remembered from "Ultimate" mode.

So just wanted to run this by Asus and wondered if anyone else had experienced this. I assume this is a software issue, as every other issue with my unit has been software related.

I remember when this laptop didn't have a functioning driver download page months after launch. But this is a great laptop overall and my daily driver. I have no interest in MSI's offerings, since they don't have a mini-LED 1000 nit 1440p model with a mechanical keyboard.

Good luck getting any support from asus..its non existant.

I can only go off personal experience ..Firstly 13th and 14th gen cpu are crashing in large numbers and regardless of what asus will tell you that icludes laptop cpu..In my case i have a crashing cpu 1380hx that overtime startted crashing etc running Armoury crate made the situation worse as by default it pushes the cpu ..this is by default..instead of giving users the option to overclock its on by default ??.

So my advice is to get rid of any asus software because its dubious at best (some say its spyware)

Is your unit outside of the warranty period, or is Asus just refusing to fix the issue?

One solution I could definitely recommend is totally removing Armory Crate with Revo Uninstaller and then installing G-Helper, which is an excellent open source alternative for Asus PCs that use Armory Crate. Armory Crate is such a bloated and slow piece of software. G-Helper is just exactly what is needed and nothing else.

I noticed after firmware 328 or so that the Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stopped working due to some change they made. The overclocking they were allowing through the app shouldn't have been. That's Intel's fault.

Still, you should be able to RMA your unit if you're still having issues. My issue definitely seems like a software and not a hardware issue.
