ASUS Zephyrus G16 (2024) microstuttering issues both in daily use and games

Hey everyone,

Earlier this year I purchased a brand new ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024). During my use I noticed that it has microstuttering issues whenever I watch videos, have conference calls or play any games. The picture freezes for a second and it's followed up by sort of a screeching / robotic sound. It usually occurs every few minutes and sometimes it can be okay for upto an hour. Here's an example: https://youtu.be/bVk6Nju1UwU?si=qcsGZ8Z-l5Zm2FYd

What I tried:
- Disabling TPM as it was suggested in one reddit post.

- Completely uninstalling Armory Crate and replacing it with a GHelper.

- Multiple factory resets.

After that I brought the laptop to the service center, where they tried replacing the motherboard and the wi-fi card. After it didn't solve the issue, they replaced my laptop with a new one. But sadly, this one is having the exact same problems. Iam kinda stuck as I don't know what else to try - has anyone run into a similar issue before?

Appreciate any help!

Hi @denis_aganin ,

You mentioned that you have already RMAed and replaced the device, but the issue remains the same. Could you please provide the RMA number and the following information for further confirmation? Additionally, based on your video, it seems that there is no power connection. Does the issue only occur when the device is not connected to power?  Thank you.

  • Serial Number:
  • BIOS Version:
  • Windows Build Version:
  • iGPU and dGPU Driver Versions:
  • Game/Software where the issue occurs:
  • Intel(R) SST Version:
  • Cirrus SmartAMP Driver Version:
  • Dolby Atmos Driver Version:
To speed up issue identification, please provide the product model, BIOS, and driver versions, along with the troubleshooting steps you've already tried to avoid redundant checks.

Hey @Anbby_ROG
Thanks for getting back to me! Yes, the issue persists even when the device is connected to the power, and the louder the content is, the louder the noise is.

  • Serial Number: S6NR______________
  • BIOS Version: GU605MI.319
  • Windows Build Version: Windows 11 Professional Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3737)
  • iGPU and dGPU Driver Versions: iGPU Driver - 31.0.101.5235 / dGPU Driver - 31.0.15.4680 (these are my current drivers downloaded via MyASUS, before I tried different versions from different sites on my first laptop)
  • Game/Software where the issue occurs: Google Chrome (Youtube, Bilibili, etc when watching videos), WeChat, Tencent Conference (video and audio calls), literally every video game except VR games - World of Warcraft, Heroes of the Storm, My Time at Sandrock. When I play VR games (Half-Life Alyx) I stream to my VR Headset PICO 4 via PICO Connect and I haven't noticed any issues (though maybe I haven't played for too long, not sure about that).
  • Intel(R) SST Version: 20.40.10390.1
  • Cirrus SmartAMP Driver Version: 22.9.38.666
  • Dolby Atmos Driver Version: 3.30514.620.0

I haven't recorded any videos of the issue occurring in games, but basically it's a freeze for 1 second with this mechanical screeching noise and then everything is back to normal. Can happen every 5 to 20 minutes, so it's pretty frustrating.
