Asus Zephyrus Duo 16 - 2023 Freezing-flicking

Niyazigo

It turned out that all Zephyrus Duo 16 models that Asus launched this year and sold for as low as $4500 were defective. We have contacted many users, whether they are on this forum or not, and they all confirmed that they have the same problem. Despite the fact that the devices of those who contacted the technical service were repaired and all the parts were replaced, they all took their devices back with the same problems.

In the previous threads, we found that this problem was caused by AMD's Adrenaline App, and the moderator friend suggested we delete it and install an old driver. However, when this happens, we said that our screens are flashing every 10-15 seconds, that it is very harmful and annoying for eye health, and that we are willing to use AMD Adrenalinele, which causes freezing problem rather than continuing like this. He said "We are working with AMD to solve the issue" and still marked the issue as "Problem resolved". But still no solution or explanation for 3-4 weeks. I talked to some friends from AMD about this and they said they didn't know about such a thing. Even the new drivers they released did not solve the problem. So actually there is no movement. All they do is buy time so they can't be refunded. Because the only support they give is to repair the laptop and return it the same way days later.

If I had not bought this device from New York and returned to my country, I would have already given it back 100 times, but unfortunately I don't have such a chance. Nobody has the desire to buy a product second hand at this price, even if it were, I wouldn't want to sell a defective product to someone else. Selling a product for $4500 and not standing behind it is fraud and theft.

Trusting the Asus brand, I bought this device from abroad and gave my old laptop as a gift to a relative. Now, because of this stupid laptop, the work of many people like me has been ruined. It's not really acceptable for Asus to ignore this problem when it should be keeping an eye on a top-of-the-line product.

I think the entire Asus team is too busy with their newly released handheld console Ally.

I agree…if Asus didn’t keep asking us to try this driver and try that driver, I would’ve taken my laptop back in time to get a refund. Now my laptop is being “repaired” and I have no confidence that it will be any better on return. I also wondered if all of their focus and attention was on the Ally, a cheap handheld device, leaving customers of their most expensive product with faulty software and in many cases a flickering screen that makes their device unusable. This is not a fair way to treat us and after reading your report, I do not know who to trust any more. 😞

Well... I haven't had any problems with system freezes for a long time after removing AMD Software from my laptop and not updating AMD drivers (the current version is 31.0.14001.46001). All other drivers are on the latest versions - all updates from Windows Update, Armoury Crate and MyASUS are installed. The only current problem is the constant regular (almost every minute, or even more often) flickering of the main screen. This problem is independent of the connection of additional monitors. Previously, this problem was solved by installing the latest version of the AMD driver, but I'm afraid to install them now in order to avoid the resumption of the freeze problem.

Hi All,

Regarding the screen flickering issue, we are actively working with AMD to analyze this problem. We kindly request your assistance in confirming the following settings:

(1) Ensure that Armoury Crate is updated to the latest version (V 3.2.7.2).
(2) In Armoury Crate, disable the Aura Wallpaper.
(3) In Armoury Crate, select the default mode in the GameVisual settings page.

After applying the above steps, please observe if the screen flickering issue improves.
If the problem persists, we recommend sending your laptop to our repair center, where our engineers can assist in diagnosing your laptop. Once you have submitted your laptop for repair, please send me a private message with your serial number and repair number. I will assist in tracking your case.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Hi, first of all it's good to hear that you are still working on the problem. But I'm starting to think that you haven't read the answers to the tests you've given us. Because we've already done these and we've all already pointed out that our screens are flashing. In addition, our friend @Jonnyrad, who sent his zephyrus duo laptop to the repair center just last week, received back by flicking the screen in the same way too. Like others did.

What I'm really wondering is, what will we do if this goes on like this? Do we have to use this laptop like this in the end? I think if there was a problem that could be solved, it would have been solved by now. but I see that you, as Asus and AMD, are also helpless and do not know what you are up against.

Hi @Niyazigo ,

I apologize for the inconvenience you have experienced, and we are actively investigating the screen flickering issue with utmost urgency to find a resolution.
To assist us in the process, could you please confirm whether you have checked the version and settings of Armoury Crate as described below, and the screen flickering issue persists?

(1) Ensure that Armoury Crate is updated to the latest version (V 3.2.7.2).
(2) In Armoury Crate, disable the Aura Wallpaper.
(3) In Armoury Crate, select the default mode in the GameVisual settings page.

As for Jonnyrad's repair case, it was related to freezing, not screen flickering.
We kindly request those who are still experiencing it after following the aforementioned settings to send their laptops to the nearest service center. Our engineers will further investigate the issue using relevant tools to expedite the resolution process. I will also continue to monitor the progress of the repair and testing. Thank you for your understanding.

I did send my inquiry at AMD's online form and they proposed the following troubleshooting methods:

1.Please perform load default settings of your bios settings and make sure that you are running your system at stock.
2.Please install latest AMD chipset driver version Version V1.2.0.120 in your system.
3.Please perform the clean boot of your OS.
4.Please install and run AMD cleanup utility to remove the previous GPU driver from your system and install latest AMD GPU driver version Version V31.0.14001.46001 in your system from your system manufacture website.

Did those things already, freeze gone but this time screen flicks which is more annoying.

to eliminate flickering try to disable Core Isolation / Memory Integrity
