Hi everyone. I just bought an Asus ROG Strix G17 G713PV-HX019W (AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX, RTX 4060, 16GB DDR5 4800MHz in slot1, and slot2 is empty). I need to upgrade to 64GB due to my heavy workload (containerization, virtualization, SQL, etc.).
ASUS official maximum capacity is 32GB, but when I looked I found that the CPU and the motherboard both support up to 64GB 4800MHz, also I found many sites and people stats that it's compatible up to 64GB.
Is it ok to try install 32GB DDR5 4800MHz in the empty slot (total 48GB) and test if the laptop is stable and compatible? Then if everything is ok try to replace the stoke 16GB with another 32GB?
Also, ASUS customer support confirmed that I need to stick with Samsung or Kingston and not Crucial. Is it really confirmed or also just recommendation? because I can't find them in my local market I only found Crucial.
Also, what are your recommendations to prepare and then test the laptop during this trials?
Thanks in advance.

Hi @Ali_Yakoot ,
The G713PV has a total of 2 memory sockets, including those that are currently in use.
It supports one SO-DIMM with a maximum capacity of 16GB, and its specification is DDR5-4800, dual channel.
Please note that we conduct stability and compatibility tests based on the recommended specifications for laptop upgrades. If you encounter compatibility issues when installing components beyond the suggested specifications, we recommend testing with the recommended specifications for optimal performance. Thank you for your understanding.

@Anbby_ROG, Thank you for your response.
Regarding the memory brand, Do I have to stick with Samsung or Kingston as recommended? Does Crucial have any past issues?
Thanks

Hi @Ali_Yakoot ,
Due to the large number of memory brands and models, we are unable to test each one individually. We recommend referring to the brands and models that we have tested or contacting the memory manufacturer for relevant testing information. Thank you.

Don't know if it's related, but I have a ROG Strix G15, I was upgrading from 24 Gb ram (16+8) to 32 Gb and my notebook don't boot with the new ram. My other Rams are Samsung and the new one is Crucial.
The notebook don't boot even if I leave only the 16 GB Crucial in the board.
I was coming here for help and saw this post
So basically my guess now it's the the ram is bad (most likely not) and there is an issue with Crucial & Asus nowadays.
