Asus ROG Strix G16 2023 Display Port USB-C not working

I'm trying to connect a USB-C to DP cable through the laptop's DP USB-C but I can't get it to work. I have two monitors here: an LG 29UM69G-B and an Asus VG32VQ1B, none worked. What's weird is that if I plug the same cable in the second USB-C port (not Display Port) it works perfectly, but in the DP it didn't even recognize the montiors in the Devices Manager.

Some details:
- Laptop Model: G614JV
- OS: Windows 11 23H2
- BIOS version: 329
- GeForce driver version: 566.03
- USB-C to DP cable: 5+ ATC-02

Everything is up to date.

Steps that I've tried:
- Checked every possible BIOS setting
- Remove all cables, including the power adapter, and hold power button for at least 40 seconds
- Installed GeForce driver for my model from Asus download centre
- Uninstalled USB drivers in Devices Manager panel

Have anyone else faced this issue?

Hi, just to update: I've recently tested with a different adapter and it worked. It seems it was a compatibiity issue with the cable I was using.
Thank you @Anbby_ROG for the help.

May I ask if you have tried testing with the NVIDIA graphics driver version V31.0.15.4624, which has been verified by ASUS?

Additionally, have you tested other DisplayPort cables for cross-validation? Thank you!

Hi @Anbby_ROG, yes I've tested with this exact same NVIDIA graphics driver, which had no results.
Unfortunately, I don't have other DisplayPort cables to test at the moment.

It might not be relevant, but just for context: I have one of the monitors connected through HDMI, and it works fine, I can see in NVIDIA control panel that it connects directly to NVIDIA graphics card. Both monitor works through HDMI.

Also tested with only the DisplayPort cable connected, no luck. Thank you!

Thank you for your response. Since the issue with the screen not displaying could be related to drivers, cable compatibility, or hardware, I would like to confirm with you if you have tested the DP port by connecting it to another device to check if the port is functional (for example, data transfer or charging)?

All good 🙂
Yeah it works fine for charging and data transfer. I can connect my phone to it to have it charging and the data transfer notification imediately pops up on both, the laptop and the phone.
I'm currently using the same port with an USB-C dock for keyboard and mouse, without issues. Thank you!

Hello! I have the same problem. My type-c display port was working fine until I've reconnected my monitor.

Hi @Ianec21 ,
The primary issue in the original post seems to involve compatibility problems with the Type-C to DP adapter. Could you kindly provide the following information to help us investigate further? Thank you!

  • BIOS version:
  • GeForce driver version:
  • Windows Build Version: (Settings > System > About, copy all information)
  • Brand/Model of the cable:
  • Monitor brand and model:
  • Have you using a dock or hub?
  • Are both Type-C ports unable to output?

Thank you for your assistance!

Hi! Thanks for responding.

  • BIOS version: 314 ( latest from Asus Drivers )
  • GeForce driver version: 566.14 Game Ready Driver, installedd from new Nvidia App
  • Windows Build Version: (Settings > System > About, copy all information)
    Edition Windows 11 Pro
    Version 24H2
    Installed on ‎11/‎17/‎2024
    OS build 26100.2314
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.32.0
  • Brand/Model of the cable: RikBo DP 1.4 supports 8k 30hz
  • Monitor brand and model: AOC ( idk the model it's full hd and 165hz through DP )
  • Have you using a dock or hub? No
  • Are both Type-C ports unable to output? Yes, but the DP one does not work. The other one uses my integrated GPU which I do not like. BTW, I am NOT on ECO Mode or whatever, my GPU is set o discrete GPU from BIOS.

P.S: I've solved it by disconnecting the laptop from charging and pressed the power button for 40 seconds or so but I am afraid for it to happen again. And my laptop is an Asus Rog Zephyrus g16 2023 model ( GU603VU )

Have you tried using a C to C cable for testing?

You mentioned that performing an EC reset resolved the issue. Please continue to monitor the situation. If the problem persists, since your issue does not pertain to the model discussed in this thread, we recommend that you create a new discussion to ensure that other users with the same model can see and discuss the problem. Thank you for your understanding.
