Asus cloud recovery not working Asus Rog Scar 18 2024. Fails at configuring DrverCD.

October 2024 I started having issues with games crashing. I spoke on the phone with Asus support in Greece and UK. Performed a clean install then had problems with Windows not being able to activate. Eventually with the help of asus tech support in Greece we managed to get windows installed and activated. After a day or 2 started having crashes again, corrupted Windows files which could not be fixed with any methods spoke with tech support again and was advised to clean wipe the ssd and perform a asus cloud recovery from the Bios.

So now cloud recovery is failing on the Configuring DriverCD stage. I've noticed that Bios time is correct when I start it but when pc restarts to go into configure driverCD the bios time is wrong so I've tried going into Bios before this stage and adjusting the time before it starts this process but it doesn't seem to fix the issue.

If laptop is booted into the windows available on ssd the windows setup restarts after a few steps.. it is random but normally happens towards the end.

It is impossible to install via usb because when I boot into the usb it simply keeps restarting the boot.

I have also tried installing drivers via safe mode. And many other things.

I think it must be a hardware issue like tech support suggested since it's now 16th of Feb 2025 and problems seem to be getting worse with this laptop.

My laptop is under warranty so I guess I'm going to do an Asus rma tomorrow Because for 4 days now it can't perform a correct asus cloud recovery or usb installation of os.

I called tech support who received my laptop and they informed me that the motherboard needs to be replaced. 10 days for parts and 7 days for installation. That is 17 working days which is 3 weeks and 2 days, plus the week I haven't been able to use the laptop at all. So a month without a computer. Obviously I've had problems with this laptop since october but was always led to believe it was a software issue. I have only had this laptop for just over a year, and for 4 months of that I suffered through those "software" issues and now I don't even have a laptop or PC of any sort for another month. So far this has been the worst experience with a laptop i have ever had.

I am having the exact same problems ever since i upgraded my windows 11 to 24h2. Everything I read online was pointing to being software but in the last 2 weeks I cant play games, i cant browse websites without 1 of 4 different browser errors making me refresh the pages over and over. On top of that I went to reinstall from the bios via Cloud Recovery and now its stuck on the DriverCD Screen, my laptop went out of warranty right at the same time as the Windows update back in October. Sucks for me because my Asus ROG Strix 18" is a power house and now its a paperweight and im left without a computer for my streaming and web design work I have to do.
I was hoping it was just a ram issue but I wont get to borrow some ram from a friend until later this week to narrow that part down. From what I read about your issue though being the exact same problems, it might be the entire board. Boo for me and this is the first laptop I have ever owned that didnt last me 4-5 years before issues happened. I am very not pleased with the product quality, thats for sure.

I’m sorry to hear about your experience. Based on your description, it seems like your laptop model (which went out of warranty in October) may be different from the one discussed (Scar 18 2024).
If the issue persists after testing with RMA/SSD replacements, even though your device is out of warranty, you can still pay for further diagnostic services to identify the problem. I would recommend contacting your local service center for assistance with diagnosing the device. Thank you.

Heya Ouga. Make sure your bios settings are correct for the asus system restore eg safe mode is on and fast boot is off. Check to see bios time is correct before starting it. Also give it plenty of time to do the DriverCD part of the installation.

If you manage to get past asus restore stage and install windows make sure you run a scan to check for corrupted files in windows just to be sure.

Your problem could be caused due to faulty ram aswell so you should definetly look into that when you have the new ram.

Update on my laptop:

Asus repair service received my device on the 19 of Feb and had to replace the whole motherboard. Then the camera failed and they had to replace that.

I received my laptop on 13th of March and and had to create an rma the next day and send it back to them again because it came to me with noises from one of the fans, something sounding loose inside and backlight bleeding.

It has been over a month now since i initially sent it to be repaired.
