WiFi speed question

Rch69

Hello, I replaced my Mesh system with 2 XT8’s today, they’re working seamlessly. Anyways, when I do a speed test on the app I get 300mbps, but when I run speedtest.net on my laptop, I’m only getting 97-100mbps. The Router is downstairs in my living room, and literally right above it maybe 8ft, through wood floor is the Node where my office is. Is there a way to get more speed? Would an ASUS RX58 help me out any? Thank you

Hi @Rch69 ,

Thank you for your inquiry.

Regarding your issue with the Wi-Fi speed difference after replacing your Mesh system with 2 ASUS XT8 routers, you can try the following steps to try troubleshoot the issue.

  1. Adjust Channels: Use the ASUS Router app or computer browser to log in to the router settings page and manually set the two XT8 routers to different non-overlapping channels (e.g., one 5GHz, the other 5GHz).
  2. Try adjusting the direction of the router's antennas to get the best signal coverage. If allowed, you can place the router in a higher, more open location.
  3. Check Connection Cables: Ensure that the cables connecting the router and the Internet are intact and use high-quality Ethernet cables.
  4. Update Firmware: Regularly check and update the router's firmware for optimal performance and security. ASUS ZenWiFi AX (XT8)|Whole Home Mesh WiFi System|ASUS Global
  5. Turn Off Unnecessary Wireless Devices: Turn off unnecessary wireless devices around to reduce wireless interference.

Upgrading to the RX58 router may indeed improve Wi-Fi speed, as the RX58 generally has more powerful hardware specifications and more advanced technology. However, this does not guarantee that it will definitely solve your problem. It is recommended that you try the above solutions first, and if they are ineffective, then consider upgrading.
