RT-AX89X going out of memory every 10 minutes (asd process?)

Hello, my router froze up overnight, so I rebooted it, and ever since the logs are showing that it is going OOM about every 10 minutes. First it starts spamming:

May 17 10:44:26 kernel: [ 5872.720019] wlan: [0:E:QDF] NBUF alloc failed 12107B @ dp_get_ppdu_desc:3430

May 17 10:44:27 kernel: [ 5873.747543] wlan: [0:E:QDF] NBUF alloc failed 12107B @ dp_get_ppdu_desc:3430
May 17 10:44:27 kernel: [ 5874.259510] wlan: [0:E:QDF] NBUF alloc failed 12107B @ dp_get_ppdu_desc:3430

Then it looks like a high memory killer kicks in and kills a process called asd:

Looking back at when the router locked up initially overnight, it seems like it tried to look for a firmware update automatically around 4am, (which is strange because I have auto updates turned off), then started spamming the 'NBUF alloc failed' message:

I have been running on the beta firmware for the last two days with no issues.  I wonder when they are going to push out an official update.

Just beat me, was about to post that I have been running the beta for 2days and everything has been great, I hope we will get an official update pushed soon.

Im pretty sure this has nothing to do with beta firmware or not -- all of the devices I own that were impacted by this were all running firmware from last year or later.  It looks like these asd updates are performed separately from anything related to firmware version updates

For me -- one the chknvram20230516 file was updated to chknvram20230518 -- the issues resolved.  This file lives in /jffs/asd and is related to malware signatures that the devices check

it was not a firmware issue. It was a asd file update for the AI protection in asus routers. Once asus removed that bad file from their distrabution server the issue was fixed. Asus says the router should clear the old file itself but i havnt seen many do that (i work tech support for a isp and have had to deal with alot of asus router calls last few days) Some routers needed to be reset, specifically a NVRam reset done to clear the old file off the router. That can be done by holding the wps button for 30sec while you power on the router. Updateing the firmware also clears the NVRam as part of the process of installing the firmware which is why that was fixing it.

Well, I don't even you the AI protection, it's turned off.  So, I am not sure how it effect me, but it did.

You have me curious, so I had to activate the AI protection.  We will see if this affects anything. Thanks for your input.

Regarding AI protection, I had mine off when I started having this bug (it was always off from day one), then I read to turn it on because it could help the issue (this was 2days ago), regardless, I still had the issue, even after clearing "chknvram20230516" truth is, it never existed when I looked for it, so for me, it wasn't the AI protection problem, what fixed the bug is the beta version that was shared here, now it's been over 2days with no issue, and I still have AI protection on.

And then there’s me - experiencing the same with a pair of ASUS extenders, not even routers - that was impacted by this. Those devices don’t even have AI protection - yet they’re phoning home and installing things on their own that can break stuff?

AX89X working just fine since Thursday when I rolled back the FW and did a factory reset. A factory reset on its own didn’t fix it for me.
